    Rico Suave? Where?

BTW, for those who don't know, the kid in that Michael Jackson video was Alfonso Ribeiro, or "Carlton" from Fresh Prince.

    A couple more

Nothing. They're still there (unlike the long gone afternoon cartoons).

ABC has the Disney lineup (Proud Family, in addition to the Disney Channel (Jake Long, Kim Possible) CBS does the educational stuff (Blues Clues, Dora) Fox does the 4Kids lineup (new TMNT, Yu-gi-oh), WB has KidsWB (The Batman, Loonatics), Nick does their stuff (Avatar, Spongebob), so does Cartoon network (Foster's, Ben 10), even ABC Family is in on the action (W.I.T.C.H., Digimon). NBC doesn't show any, but then again, they haven't shown Saturday morning cartoons since the Saved by the Bell days of the early 90s.

You can argue about quality if you want, but overall, there are far more cartoons on saturday morning now than there ever were.

Well, once Disney bought ABC, they started to put all their Disney stuff on Saturdays. When Turner got the rights to all the classic cartoons like Bugs Bunny and Tom & Jerry, there wasn't much left for Saturday mornings.

Of course, the blame can't be cast on them 100%. As cable TV has grown and viewing options for children have skyrocketed, there really wasn't much reason to keep cartoons on network TV on Saturdays. FOX Still has TMNT on Saturdays, but that's about it. Also, you'll notice that news shows are now a staple of CBS, ABC, and NBC. Saturday mornings used to be a time to get away from news and current events, but the increasing popularity of 24 hour news networks and the public's infatuation for news as soon as it happens helped kill Saturday morning cartoons.

Also, do kids even get up early on Saturday mornings anymore? I remember waking up at 7:00 am, fixing a huge bowl of cereal, watching cartoons until noon, then it was the afternoon Kung Fu movie....meeeeeemories....

During Thanksgiving weekend, my 7 year old nephew was up at the crack of dawn watching cartoons on either Nickelodeon or the Disney Channel.

I was talking mainly about saturday mornings on network TV, when you could watch one or two channels all the way until the afternoon. Also, I think I read somewhere that said stuff on Saturday mornings had to be somewhat educational, which seems to be the case as I look at the TV listings.

I also notice that Beakman's World is still on! I loved that show...
