Did anyone see Bush talking on a bullhorn to all the workers in New York a few minutes ago. He seemed so natural and played it perfectly when the bullhorn was going in and out and people couldn't hear. He rallied the crowd real well and he did a good job. Seeing him so comfortable up there with all the people made him seem like a normal person who just happens to be our president.

Governor Perry was walking around outside the capital collecting donations yesterday for the American Red Cross relief fund.

I thought that was GW's finest moment as a president. Very moving.

and if that "i can hear you, they can hear you, and the people who did this will soon hear us all" was as unrehearsed as it looked, then damn that was a good qoute.

Totally agree R4pres, that was awesome. GW's best moment to date.

Rehearsed or not (I dont think it was or could have been) it was great.

As most of you know, I am Canadian. However, I have to say that during the past few days, I have been very impressed with how America and Americans have been rallying together to overcome this devastating blow. I have always made fun of George W. in the past, but I think he's done a good job with things so far, and trust him to make the best possible decision.

As an outsider, I've always noticed how patriotism was such a defining characteristic of the US people. Americans have a very strong sense of national unity, which is easy to get swept up in. This is an admirable trait, I think.

I have to say that I voted for Gore and really did not like George Bush before. I thought he came across as a slick, rich a-hole who was only interested in big business and oil companies BUT I think tragedy like this brings out either the worst or best in people and now that I've seen his best side, I think he's doing a fabulous job. So what if he can't speak as elegantly as Clinton or Reagan. He might be a little slow, but the guy obviously views Americans as his family and his emotion during this time speaks for itself. I never thought I'd say this, but I think he's the right leader for us right now.

I really don't want to play politics here...it's completely inappropriate. But my wife is a school teacher...her partner is an African-American woman who's voted Democrat all her life. After the attack and Bush's subsequent statements on the "cowards", she said, "I sure am glad a Republican is president today!" I thought that was pretty funny.

Republican or not, I really am proud of our President. This guy is as real as it gets and it really shows. When he was asked in the Oval Office yesterday what he specifically prays for, he started to break down a little...and then he caught himself. And he ultimately said, "i'm a compassionate guy, but I've got a job to do." His reaction was so unrehearsed to me. Really refreshing. I'm proud of him and I'm very thankful he's our president right about now.

It made me feel good to hear Bush mention that, the people that did this will hear from us soon. Bush's speech to the emergency workers was another proud moment to come from the tough conditions in Manhattan.

Must be... I was shocked to see other nations singing the US National Anthem, raising US flags, etc. It was truly great watching that happen.

Did you see the ceremony in Ottawa in front of the parliamentary buildings? Thousands and thousands of people gathered to hear the Prime Minister speak. Then, they had the three minutes of silence and sang both the Canadian and American national anthems. Many people held up Canadian and American flags intertwined with each other. It was a nice moment.

    Amazing...

Almost as much so as the playing of our national anthem during the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace.

    RR,

    You have a point, but....

Supporting our leader is not "talking politics".

    --------------------------------
I hated Clinton, but I could see the man's obvious gift for speaking. I voted for Bush. GW does not have that same gift, at least for giving prepared speeches. His timing and delivery were poor at best. I liked "what" he said, but his presentation is not good.

I missed what he said with the loud speaker when visiting with the rescue workers. But, from what some are saying he did much better with a more unrehearsed-type of speech, which can be construed as a person with genuine characteristics.

I think he's been short spoken and pathetic, thus far, though to be honest I didn't see bull horn thing with volume on. I agree that he is a normal guy who just happens to be president, as apposed to an exeptional, eloquent, descision making person who deserves to be the leader of the free world. I can't understand how you people can like the way he handles himself. I'm not some crazy liberal, I'm just speaking from the standpoint of a fan of neat people, and the fact is he is just so damn transparent and awkward that his speach writers can't make him say anything too fancy, lest he'll screw up the way it comes off, so he has to be short short short. Whether it's in the debates, or addressing a country in shock and in need, G.W. is underwhelming, as always.

Well I, for one, thank God that being the most eloquent speaker is NOT what qualifies a man to be made president. I can name a thousand other qualities I'd prefer over that.

This country doesn't need Shakespearian-trained actors to deliver monologues to the nation.

    We just need a leader.

TB- exactly. we tend to overrate the "media" qualities of candidates today. I'm not convinced that an Abe Lincoln would have been much for the television. But it's hard to deny his leadership skills.

Ask the firefighters and men out there in the rubble yesterday about Bush....men whom I assume probably, for the most part, voted for Gore. Ask them how they feel about him right now. He's accorded himself with a great deal of confidence and dignity. He has a job right now that I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. I take that back...I'd wish far worse for these jackasses who pulled this crap off.
