If Novak was given as many shots as Alston I feel sure he could get his rythem back and start scoring again!!

As long as we are winning JVG is not going to change anything. Why change a winning formula, besides theres not really any better alternatives to rafer anyway.

Rafer would be OK if he would just quit shooting, from what I understand he has cut down on TOs. And we are winning, so it obviously isn't affecting us that much, and what's the alternative?? JLIII. Not a starter. And v-span should not be seeing the court in any meaningful situation for this team. He just isn't ready.

I noticed he did not want the shot in the 4th today. Rafer knows his shooting is hurting the team right now, but if he stops shooting when he is open our offense could stall because defenders will completely cheat off Rafer (a la RyBo).

JVG is using psychology here, right now, it is in our best interest for Rafer to get his confidence (and mediocre shot) back. He also knows he has no other reasonable option at starting point guard, so he is standing up for his troops.

The best he can be is a Brad Johnson.
I'm not sure who has brings it out of the fans more, David Carr or Rafer Alston.

    Totally agree.

Rafer at least can still play D, bring up the ball and pass, as bad as he has been playing, he is still our best PG, hands down. And unless you are willing to pay twice as much, you won't find a better pg for the money either.

    Rockets Issue #1:

    Health.

    Issues #2 - ∞:

    Presently Inconsequential.

That last JVG line would make a good sig just to spite the virulent criticism around these parts.

Rafer was guarding Hinrich pretty much the whole game, yes?

I really don't know what would be best. Lucas can't defend. That's all that is keeping us in the games these days. Vspan can't seem to do anything right. Can he shoot worse than Rafer even if he was taking half court shots all night? Probably not. Rafer must be doing something right that we can't see. We are still winning for some reason. It aint talent. All praise to everyones favorite whipping boy(JVG). OH....and all praise to the 53 year old center that seems to be playing like he's 25 again. That T pissed me off by the way.

Head is encouraged to take his shot. For some reason he has been passing on shots he should be taking. There's really no explanation for it except TMac has been in the flow and when he's in his zone the team is told to run the ball through him

Maybe if Novak could play defense and rebound he would get more time. Novak can't play pg either

When you are selling something, you wouldn't say your goods are bad, would you?

man you know what irks me the most is that we actually have a perfect pg for this team rehabbing. Sura ran the offense well, low turnovers, not too many assists, pushed it hard, could drive and finish. a decent spot up shooter. good defender and rebounder and just straight hard nosed.

if he somehow makes it back this season i am going to go nuts man. its a shame what happened to bobby that guy has so much guts and heart if we somehow could clone him into a healthy body.

I wish rafer would stop throwing up random shots, but I dont think its going to stop anytime soon. So my question is what can we possibly get for Sura and the Te. I wouldn't mind an upgrade in Pg or even Pf positions right now. I heard Ely wants out maybe we can get him. He has always been a decent back up, puts up fairly decent numbers to. I think Pargo would be good in the Rocket's system.

Remember guys, this is the same JVG that gave Flyin' Ryan PT. As long as you play hustle D, you'll get to play.

    It's Rafer's D, he hold M.James to 3/12, and Hinrich went for 1-11...
So...Rafer has been shooting very poorly,
but on the other hand, his strong D also shuts down the opponent PG, so it is still a wash...

    now.....
If Rafer can shut down the opponent PG, AND also go for 20 pt himself, everyone will be happy, like that one game against Dallas when he totally outplayed J.Terry.

But then this is All-star level performance that nobody expects him to be.

I still don't understand how people can say that Rafer jacks up "random shots." It's simply not true. His shots are nearly all within the flow of the offense, and even the most anti-Rafer posters here usually admit that.

He's not a bad decision-maker. He has a high Ast./TO ratio. Even his defense has been improved lately.

Despite horrendous shooting, the guy isn't worthless. He does some things well and other things very well.
