I am going to buy my gf a new cell phone and the selection at the Cingular store in town is horrid. She basically wants a phone that can play mp3s and take pictures. Picture quality is not that important. I was thinking about a SLVR or the RAZR V3i but I am not sure if you can just load mp3s on those or you must buy music from iTunes. Does anybody know? What are some other phone options that act as mp3 players and cameras?

Yes you can just load the music in, dont have to buy from itunes.

If your looking for somethign from cingular i would go with Sony Ericsson W810i. If your looking for something unlocked i would go with Sony Ericsson K750. http://myworldphone.com/k750.html (they have it in red, which is more girly i guess)

    Heres some reviews

    W810 - http://www.mobile-review.com/review/sonyericsson-w810-en.shtml
    K750 - http://www.mobile-review.com/review/sonyericsson-k750-en.shtml

Both phones are good for what your looking for.

The w810i is a great phone, but you would have to unbrand to be able to use your own mp3's on it. It costs about $15 to do it online.

No you don't. I had the w810i and freely used my mp3s on it and I got it from the Cingular store. I didn't like it's simplistic design and I couldn't hear on it so that is why I sold mine and am not considering it for my girl.

I bought my girlfriend a Samsung Blackjack and she loves it. I don't think you could go wrong with that. It really is a cool phone.

I own the Sony Ericsson W600i phone. It holds roughly 60 songs (depending on size of the songs) and the camera is fairly good too. The music sounds good without having earphones.

I've had that phone too. Could never get use to the swivel design.

You guys can also recommend other GSM carrier phones because I can get them unloked and can be used on Cingular's service. Is the Chocolate a good phone?

    Chocolate is a Verizon/CDMA phone.

I never understood why people sacraficed crappy customer service and coverage for bells and whistles.

I recently purchased a T-Mobile Dash Smart Phone. That + a $5.99 a month "data" charge + a slingbox = TV anywhere I go on my phone. That makes shopping at the mall with the wife on a Sunday during the NFL playoffs a little more fun :)

If you want a Chocolate, get the original Korean one. They have the GSM versions out and they look way better than the Verizon ones, although there is no speaker during calls, no memory card slot, and an external battery charger. :(

    I'd recommend a Sony Ericsson K800:

    Bad-ass phone

Only gsm providers in the states are Cingular which used the 850 band in some parts, so if your looking for unlocked and you travel make sure its quadband. T-mobile which tri-band which all unlocked phones use.

There are gsm versions of the chocolate, just search ebay.

I have a Dash too, and i was able to connect to edge right out of the box without any data plan. Thinking about getting a slingbox, hows the quality of the video on the dash over edge? Does it buffer a lot?

I don't quite understand this, so if I buy an unlocked phone make sure it is quadband? That is it?
