He's going to pass Kareem for second all-time behind Dream as a Rocket...that's arguably the biggest milestone of his career.

Besides, if he plays a couple of more seasons for us, that would solidify his Rocket credentials even more.

He really surprised me again this season. BTW, how old is he? 43, 44? I mean, the real age, LOL.

there is no way you cant love deke and his antics on the court. when the rockets traded for him I was really happy because I felt he could help teach yao some defensive fundamentals at the very least. he has exceeded those expectations and more.

the one thing i will give the league credit for is that they do not call taunting on deke with the finger wagging with all the new "cleanup" rules. the finger wag has become his and only his and its great to see him still do it, several times a game.

the guy is just a team player its awesome. even though juwan is being a overpaid the two of them are up and cheering and supporting their teammates every time they are in the game. just go back and look at all of R2K's clips you will be hard pressed to find a time when someone on the rockets scored and deke's doesnt stand up to clap and cheer. the guy is doing every basket when he isnt in the game.

having guys like deke do that makes it easier for us to have "basket cases" like bonzi and kirk (unfair label for kirk imo) before bonzi hurt his back you could see the progress he was making in terms of team camararderie. The first game vs the lakers he was a bit separated from the team would be sitting when the rest were standing, then you go toward the clippers game where yao got hurt :)() and he was the first guy off the bench to help out yao and in the games prior he was cheering and hollering for the guys on the court.

as much as I will miss the thing he brings on the court next year it will be the off the court things that will I miss more about deke.

well this is his 3rd season here. he played 5 in denver and 5 in atlanta. so if he can find a way to play 2 more seasons here while winning a championship and passing kareem on the blocks list then i guess he would be remembered as a rocket. even then it would be a stretch.

besides, i think the biggest achivement of his career is his 4 DPOY awards (i tihnk in a row). whever he got those, that's where he'll be remembered IMO.

It all goes back to blocked shots, that's what Deke made a career out of. IMO, there is no question that the "2nd all-time" on the shot-blocks list will be more memorable and how he will ultimately be remembered/referred to.

But you're right, he needs to play at least a couple of more seasons for the Rox, which I am confident he will do (absent a career-ending injury or something).

LOL, for some reason, this thread sounds like one of the Vince Young threads :D

great thread though, I really think we dont give Deke enough credit and we had a lot of people calling for his retirement and of bringing in a backup 5. well, all I can say is, IN YOUR FACE. Mutombo is gonna have to sex u in this case :D :D

Best backup in the league. Our interior defense was incredible. My favorite part was how Dikembe made smart passes after his offensive rebounds.

Sigh, I wish he was a little younger.

I want to vote for Deke as an all-star backup center.
