As most of know already there is a small rumor going around Clutch Fans that would has us involved in the Maggette sweepstakes. Sounds like it would be too good to be true, but who would we give up? Someone said Sura and Bonzi for Maggette and maybe a pick and if that’s all it takes then we need to pull the trigger like yesterday. The reason I made this tread though is because I have grown quite fun of one of the most aggressive rockets on this team Kirk Snyder. The first trade proposal sounds sweet, but we already have a log jam at the sg/sf spot .Who do you guys this is the better player or would help this team the most Kirk Snyder or Corey Maggette? What if they wanted us to throw Snyder in the deal? Would you if you where Carol Dawson pull the trigger? This means

    Sura, Snyder, Bonzi, pick maybe?
    For
    Corey Maggette

And who is the most aggressive player? We will need that come playoff time.

I like Maggette, but we're giving up way too much. Honestly, I wouldn't even do Bonzi for Maggette straight up. Keep in mind that (according to Blinebury) Bonzi will visit the doctor in Waco. If the treatment helps him regain the abilities he had last year in the playoffs, we need him to stay on this team. Maggette is probably a better shooter, but Bonzi is a better defender and rebounder. This year, Maggette is only 4-34 (.118%) from three.

It seems a lot of people here want to include Sura in their own made-up trade. First of all, why would any team want to acquire Sura? JVG basically said he's done. It's like the Jeff Bagwell situation in Spring Training.

I'm still not sure about Snyder though. He's a slasher and solid defender, but at the same time he's not a good shooter. He's very useful in JVG's defensive strategy, but not really useful in JVG's offensive scheme (especially when Yao's playing).

It looks like this year's draft is going to be ridiculously deep. I don't want to trade any draft picks.

Baseball is different than basketball. There is a salary cap in the NBA. Learn the rules, and come back and tell me why a team might want to acquire a contract that has no future money owed, and would ultimately be paid by insurance. He's the ideal money dump, and there's an example of it in practically every other trade these days. That's the only reason Philly wanted Joe Smith.
There's a difference between deep and top heavy. I look at this draft, and it's a great year to be in the lottery, with at least two guys (Oden and Durant) who would be runaway #1 picks most years, and a couple other guys (Noah, Wright) who would have a decent shot at being #1 picks some years. But I don't think it extends so deep that top talent is there into the 20s.

We can not give up the pick in next years draft. Granted, drafts are a crapshoot, but there has been a lot of solid late first round draft picks lately ie (josh howard and tony parker, even our own luther head). As pointed out this draft is loaded so a gem could easily fall to where the rockets pick.

As for Maggette, the Clips have no leverage. He wants out and badly so there is no way we give up two players, sura and a pick. I think i would give up either bonzi or snyder and sura to make the salaries match but that is it. We are in no way desperate at this point.

Problem with maggette is he wants to start, and I dont know if he can on this team either. He isnt going to start in front of Tmac or Battier, so there is nowhere to put him.

Can our TE be packaged in a 3way trade?
    e.g.

    TE, 2nd rounder to Philly,
    Sura + korver to clips
    Maggette to houston?

Well your right it's not always good to trade your first round pick no matter how far you ar ein the draft theses days...look at head his killing right now and was drafeted in the 20's.

Actually the Maggette thing on the insider has been up for quite a while now...I would just sit back and relax and not worry about it until management itself comes out and say that they're really trying to make things work to acquire Maggette. We're winning and and we're getting most of our players back soon so if it doesn't happen I wouldn't sweat it.

I really dont see the fascination with maggette on the bbs. How would he help the rockets whatsoever when the whole team is healthy?

I see no use for Maggette on this team. We are not weak at the swingman position at all. We need major help at point and some big man depth; Maggs addresses neither. He can't shoot and can't defend. He can score in bunches but needs the ball to be effective. I like his play, but not for us.

He's definitely better than Snyder and also Bonzi (IMO). He's a superb athlete that runs the floor, slashes, finishes and draws a lot of fouls. I'd give up Bonzi in a heartbeat for Maggette.

Maggette is what we all hope Snyder will become. They both have similar games but Maggette is much much more refined. (Although, he's a horrid 3 point shooter and makes Snyder look like Steve Novak at times)

I wouldn't mind getting Maggette on board but he wants to start and there's no way that happens on this team. Also, I like the fact that Snyder is still cheap and we need all the flexibility we can get in terms of payroll.

Just say no to Maggette for Bonzi. He is not wanting to be a role player which we would need him to be. He is a strong player one of the better ones on the clippers but I would hate to lose the draft pick this year because it could be a deep draft impact players deeper into the draft, not stars per say but impact. If they want snyder and Sura then I think we seriously consider it but I think Bonzi is worth more because he is more physical and more of a low post scorer then Maggette.

In general I like Maggette a great deal but I think when we get Snyder and Yao back we will be a top 7 team in the league and when the playoffs come the scariest 1-2 punch. So wait and see at this point. I am still waiting for the trades to start I expected the Iverson deal to begin them but I am still waiting.

Do we need another fragile wing player like Maggette when we have PG, PF/C issues?
