What is it about him that is so offensive that it would kill you as a fan? I haven't payed much attention to him or his situation so is it personal issues, or where he goes to school or what?
He's a QB that reminds me too much of Carr. I think a reason Quinn has played so well is because of Charlie Weiss's system. Also, Quinn doesn't handle pressure very well either. I just think he's going to be a bust.
I think the one thing that precludes Brady Quinn from becoming a Texan is that he does not throw well on the run, very important for any QB in Kubiak's version of the WCO.
Texans should take the best Secondary player available whether it's Leon Hall or Laron Landry. If Joe Thomas or Gaines Adams are there, consider taking them instead. If Jamarcus Russell is there...take him. If none of those players are available...trade down for an extra 2-3 round pick. Maybe consider AP, Lynch or Branch.
I've really been looking at that scenario lately. The #8 & #72 for New England's two #1's and their second rounder would be okay by me.
I agree on BQ having bust written all over him, I watched a number of ND games this year and was never impressed by him and his girly-leg-kick throwing motion vs Michigan, USC and LSU, he completed less than 50% of his passes, what makes anyone think he can do it in the NFL if he can't get it done in NCAA?
NE doesn't believe in focusing on star players or paying any one player too much. I doubt they'd want a #1 overall. Their strength is finding good talent all over the place and making it fit into their system.
Whoops - meant to say a high #1. Not sure what I was thinking! I think NE would love to have a bunch of 2nd and 3rd round picks all over their team.
If the Texans do get rid of Carr and hope to get a QB in the draft this year they will either have to trade up to have a chance at getting Quinn or Russell. Brian Brohm will still be on the board, but it would probably be somewhat of a reach with that high of a pick.
LSU has been by 2nd fav team since I was a kid (next to UT). So I feel in a good position to judge. Russell does have a stronger and more accurate arm than VY (not that VY isn't much more solid in these regards than often credited). Russell is not nearly as fast or elusive, though he isn't bad in these regards. I am somewhat concerned about JR's leadership, e.g., "it factor", and it is one of the reasons LSU played versus ND instead of Ohio State this week. JR is so talented some times he comes off as lacksadaisical. Though his receivers helped (dropped balls), he made a very critical error late in the Auburn game getting sacked trying to outrun a DE/LB instead of throwing the ball away. In the Florida game he also justed to never get into it. Though he did help them pull some close games out, he also flirted with diaster versus Tenn (and ASU last year). Overall LSU was probably the 1st or 2nd most talented squad in college this year. When on a roll they are great. But I am concerned they are part a reflection of JR, immensly talented but not always focused and hungry. Kind of reminds me what I think of Culpepper, but I think DC compounds it with personality/ego problems with teammates. In the end I think the Raiders do take him #1, he is too special of a prospect at the most important position in football and the most desperate position of the Raiders. On the Texans, I think an offensive playmaker is key. Peterson, Jarrett, Johnson would be great. I am less sure about Lnych being more than just an excellent all around guy instead of a game changer, I might rather try a 2nd on Michael Bush and go with the best defensive player or OL at #8 if those 3 above are gone. And yes Quinn is very overrated (at best the #2 QB prospect), as is Smartja (sp) and Zbranski (sp).
Another guy I hope will be available in one of the later rounds is Rufus Alexander from OU. We probably have more pressing needs, but he's a firey aggressive player.
According to the NFL draft value charts I found online, our #8 pick is worth 1400 pts, while their #22 pick (780) and #28 pick (660) combine for 1440 pts. That is pretty fair for both teams. I'd love to have their 2nd rounder, but we'd have to give up something else to get that...like maybe our 3rd rounder.
San Jose coach may get the job with the Raiders. There was a piece on 13news that said they may be interested in Carr. If that's the case, we could give them our #8(pick) and #8(Carr) for their #1 and Jamarcus Russell-our QB of the future. Kubiak would then probably sign Jake Plummer for next year. Or, we could trade them Carr for their 2nd or 3rd round pick, take Kevin Kolb, retain our #8 pick and take a Defensive player, AP or Lynch.
Rufus Alexander in 2nd or 3rd would be a great pick. Their are a lot of good Defensive players in this draft. Hopefully, the Texans make it a good one. They could use help at just about every position on O and D.
Sounds neat and all, but no way DCarr brings that much value. 5 years of sucktitue + 16 (or 24?) more MEEEEELLLLION dollars = 5th rounder at most in a trade. Or, GMs laughing in your ear when you call them.
I think the Texans would be lucky to get a 4th rounder out of Carr. Like msn posted, the money he is due the next couple seasons alone kills a lot of his trade value (whatever is left). The Raiders best option is to get a QB with the #1 and just start ALL OVER, Jamarcus Russell will be in Silver and Black next season.
