The Target down the street now sells a decent amount of groceries. Has anyone compared the prices there yet?
Ah man, I just hate it. Rude people everywhere. The only time I can really handle going to the store is at 3:00am in the morning where you don't have to worry about people leaving their carts in the middle of the aisle or crap like that. I am now officially addicted to Kroger's fried chicken though. And they take my Camel buy one, get one free coupons.
Fiesta, nothing beats latin american bakery!!! although alot of attractive women shop at the central market so I shopped there all the time, when I lived in houston...the scenery was NICE
In Austin: For general groceries, HEB #3, Round Rock (Louis Henna @ Greenlawn) For HBA items, Wal-Mart (Parmer @ I-35). Avoid the Wal-Mart at I-35 @ Louis Henna at all costs. It's a madhouse. For a gourmet dinner, Central Market (Lamar @ 38th). I like their produce and prices more than Whole Foods. But when it comes to general grocery shopping, it seems that HEB rules Central Texas. I constantly have to explain to my wife that the Randall's in town are NOTHING compared to the way Randall's used to be in Houston. I used to work at a Randall's Flagship in Houston, and it's still the only grocery store I've ever seen with valet parking. It's sad to see how much that chain has deteriorated.
I'm in Orange...near Beaumont. My choices are HEB pantry (tiny piece-o-crap place), Super WalFart, a locally owned expensive mom-and-pop store, or Kroger. Since I shop with coupons, I always go to Kroger because they double/triple coupon values. On average, I can get $150 worth of groceries for $75 with coupons. I also love the fact that I can get a .10 per gallon fuel discount because I've bought groceries there.
One place I totally forgot about........ My ladyfriend turned me back onto Droubi's on Hillcroft just below Bellaire. I had been in there a few times but now I'm shopping quite a bit there. Seems like I am there every other week now. They have a great selection of olives in big wooden barrels. I really like the Lebanese green olives. They sell them for $2.99 a pound. Very addictive if you like green olives. I also buy frozen Spanakopita (Greek cheese & spinach pastries in phyllo dough), cans of stuffed grape leaves, tea & pastries when I go there. They also have a great lunch buffet.
Mmmmm Droubi's has a ton of great Stuff! If you like them you should check out Phoenicia on Westheimer. Lots of goodies there too.
Phonecia is awesome. I really like it. It's just way out of the way for me. I try to stop in whenever I am way out west on Westheimer.
I hear ya! It's out of the way for me too but all this talk just reminded me that they have an awesome olive loaf in their bakery *drool*! I think I'll have to make a stop there this weekend and pick one up.
Wal-Mart. I don't really like shopping to begin with, so give me a store that is right down the street, packed with everything I need and I am there. There used to be a Kroger in the area, but Wal-Mart put it out of business.
