so yao's rehab is on track for him to be out the orig. estimated timeframe.....that leaves us with one question. who should be the number two option while yao is out for roughly another 6-8 weeks? personally i would say shane or j-ho if he can keep up what he has been doing (eps. with bonzi out for a bit) but for some reason a certian someone seems to often have the second highest shot total . i think most of you know who i am talking about, rafer, he takes so many shots. he is our pg, a pg we brought in because of his pass first mentality and now he is jackin up all sorts of bricks (below 30% 2 previous games before the last one). on the season he is shooting below 40% from the field, shouldnt someone like shane (who has a MUCH better shooting percentage)be taking the 2nd most shots to t-mac? now i am not saying bench rafer (although i think jl III should be getting a few more min.) all i am saying is he needs to pass more and shoot less. so who do all of yall think should be the 2nd option, and what do you think about a sub 40%(season) rafer taking 16 shots(jl III was 4-8)?
Juwan Howard IS our 2nd option, now that Yao is out, he is having some good games, hitting his mid rangers.
What do you mean "another" 6-8 weeks? Yao's originally estimated timeframe was 6 weeks, so if it hasn't changed like you said (and I don't think it has), then he should only be gone another 4-5 weeks.
If you have read the original reports, it said that Yao can only start training after those 6 weeks, before that he cannot do anything to his injured leg. So even after those 6 weeks, it will probably take a few more weeks for him to finally get back to game shape and better conditioning.
Since Yao's been out Battier- fg: 31/70 ast/to: 12/7 reb: 5 per game Howard- fg: 30/62 ast/to: 15/9 reb: 9 per game Head- fg: 23/53 ast/to: 13/11 reb: 3 per game Alston- fg: 31/93 ast/to: 27/14 reb: 3.3 per game Yes I realize this is only over a 6 game span (I counted the game Yao was injured because he only played 5 minutes, but I just wanted to throw this out there for you all to see. (I hope all my math was correct, I added the stats myself)
I agree that Rafer should shoot less, but to his defense his teammates dont shoot enough. There are times that Battier or Howard have a shot and pass back to Rafer at which point he drives for his teardrop or launches a three. I think Battier especially needs to get more shots up, although when he seems to try to shoot more his game doesnt flow as well. I just wonder where Rafer's touch went cuz he seemed so much more solid with his shot at the beginning of the year.
I don't think we need a designated #2. I'd say second option would be by committee. Between Head, Battier, and Jho they have all been pretty effective. On some nights someone will have a hot streak and he'll be the one. But if they can all share the load the better. I'd hate to have the game on the shoulders of one of our role players.
this is right on. designating a "number two" makes us easier to defend because defenses will key in on a particular guy. having 6 guys who can drop 20 on any given night is ideal, because it keeps everybodies confidence up (and confidence = better shooting) and keeps defenses guessing by complicating their gameplanning. case in point--the suns: amare, nash, marion, diaw, barbosa, bell--any can go off on any given night--this is the ideal way to score.
So it means that if you're not number 1, you're number 2. Of course this doesnt apply to Deke and Hayes.
