Hakeem is best All Time But the Best single Block I've seen was Robert Horry . . . Blocking Horace Grant *CLEANLY* from Behind in the 95 Championship against Orlando . . . Robert THE HOUSTON HORROR Horry Rocket River
Best block for me is Hakeem vs KJ. KJ on the breakaway thinks he has the easy bucket, Hakeem from behind sends the ball into the crowd. That was too artistic to forget. ------------------ The truth is out there... but I forget where...
Do you guys remember that one block Olajuwon had in college, where it bounced of the guys face/shoulder? I forgot who they were playing but they were wearing yellow. But the KJ block is the best Rocket block ever.
Bill Willoughby blocking Kareem's sky hook at it's appex. It was in Sports Illustrated. AN AWESOME SIGHT !!! Da Dakota
Joe Joe, that was a good block! It was just horrible having to listen to Sean Elliot and that idiot SA sportscaster calling that game. They couldn't even come close to giving credit to anything the Rockets did. When Francis dunked over the Mermaid, all they talked about was how cocky Francis was. Every missed shot was the worst shot they had ever seen. The topper was the 2sandwiches block. Elliot said that Hamilton just stuck his big ham chop out and got lucky. I ended up yelling some pretty cruel things at the TV that night. BTW, my favorite Rocket block was the Rod Strickland one.
I hope this *indeed* happened (sometimes when I look back at these highlights -- even on TV -- them seem so remote and blurry to me ...): How about Barkley blocking Mutombo a couple (?) years ago? That one was just amazing, Chuck is almost a mere *foot* shorter than Mutombo! Sailor [This message has been edited by sailor (edited December 20, 1999).]
Not a block, but funny. Did anyone see Mugsy(2-3 years ago) win a jump ball against a 7 foot center? Bad toss and the center was too busy smiling (which quickly turned into a frown) to jump?
Game 7 of the 1997 Seattle series. Payton drives baseline and Chuck pimpslaps his weak layup attempt right back at him. That block had me jumping up and down and screaming for about ten minutes. ------------------ WE WILL WATCH THEM FALL.
Waitaminnute... I take that back... It's the second Bulls game of '97. Jordan tries to go up for a dunk, but Hakeem comes out of nowhere. Get this, instead of slapping the ball into the stands, Hakeem uses his strength to push down on the ball, causing Jordan to land right where he started. "His Airness" my ass. ------------------ WE WILL WATCH THEM FALL. [This message has been edited by AntiSonic (edited December 20, 1999).]
Best block I've ever seen was in the 92 finals when MJ thought he had an easy fast break, but along comes Drexler (on the Trailblazers) came from behind and blocked Jordan with an awesome block!!! ------------------ Suggestion for New Name once the Rockets move to Louisiana: The Opossums!
HOw about that Rod Strickland block. That was nice how he came from behind and wiped that **** away!!! MAN THAT WAS GOOD!
I don't know about best blocker, but Carlos Rogers has got to be the worst dunker! He seems to get too excited as he approaches the basket and just lets the ball fly out of his hands. Cato has his problems too, although his 'oops on Sat night can make you forget the misses in a hurry.
DaneB, you got it. I take mine back. Hakeem's block in game 6 against Starks won us that finals. You just know that shot was going to go in.
Pete Chilcutt blocking Marjerle in the paint..4th quarter of Pheonix game 7. We're coming back! Oh yeah!
I'm with DaDakota. The Bill Willoughby block was a once in a lifetime event. [This message has been edited by No Worries (edited December 21, 1999).]
Francis3 is right. When Hakeem threw the ball away a midcourt with Strickland on a dead run to the other end, and Hakeem actually got back in time to block it? Man. The speed, timing, hussle, will, hops. Hakeem had it all on that block.
I don't know about the KJ block, but I do remember the KJ dunk over Hakeem. As much as I love Hakeem, you got to give KJ credit on that one. With Hakeem at his prime, KJ put it to him.
