I have noticed that Vspan almost never stands up or show any emotions at all when one of his teammates makes an amazing play

is this because thats what usually happens in Europe (I highly doubt it even though I dont follow European Basketball) or is he beginning to feel left out and depressed due to the lack of progress he is making which is directly correlated to his playing time

Every time I see our bench clears to congratulate someone, I see Vspan still sitting down clapping, ONly on few occasions where a HUGE play was made did he bother to stand up. Was he like this in Greece?

At least the kid was clapping as you noticed. He is mentally stronger than you could think of.

People in Europe do show emotions during basketbal games.
However I do not think that V-span is depressed. I also do not know how is was in Greece. But i wouodn't worry to much if i were you, everybody has a different wa to show emotion.

I think he understands why he is not getting the playing time. He needs to be able to knock down open jumpers consistently. At last week's Nets game, I watched him missing most of his jumpers during half time warm up's. Of course, he is not happy about not playing and this defnitely brings his confidence down. But I have a feeling that he is tough mentally and will continue to work back into the rotation. This year maybe tough though. Lucas III is at least knocking down jumpers.

I noticed that as well. Even when the players come to the bench I dont see a lot of emotion from him. Do you think he is having second thoughts about coming to Houston now?

Open jumpers? Yeah, that's probably what advice Rafer is giving him.

I think if he simply gets his turnovers down and quits taking 3 point shots, he will see more minutes. He should take that open 3 point shot when he gets the ball and drive it into the paint and either pull up for the short jumper or dish. He doesn't need to master a new skill to play. Just cut down on mistakes and play his game.

I won't be surprised if he does.

But he has been like that since from the beginning. He rarely shows his emotions.

I think that Bill is not dissapointed. I'm sure that he is hard worker and he just want to be focuced to the game so he will understand more easily the nba type of play.

Sorry for my English If you don't understand what I wrote just ask me.

he doesnt show much emotion on the bench, but i think thats just how he is. He always has that just rolled out of bed look. Even when he did play he was still stone faced on the court.

VSpan has always been a leader as well as a cheerleader for his teams on and off the court. He has also always been one of the contributors to all of his teams success. He has no significant contribution to this team's success and certainly that has affected his enthusiasm on the bench. Add that with Van Gundy strategic and well executed plan to destroy, demoralize and decapitate Vspan's energy from the get go and you see what you get. The day Van Gundy develops a rookie will be his first. And don't mention Luther. He was never Van Gundy's choice and never got any minutes until there absolutely was no one else on the bench. Even when Alston was injured Wesley was given PG minutes over Luther. Wesley sucks as a point. Bogans was given sg minutes over Luther and then in the offseason Van Gundy wanted head gone. He even said he saw no minutes for Luther this season. Well Luther shooting 47% and playing better than anyone else not name Yao or Tmac has forced his hand. But JVG never had a clue he had a talent their and doesn't have a cluse about VSpan.

That being said I don't know that I would take JLIII's minutes and give them to Vspan. I mean he is playing well and has earned his minutes. Also when Tmac is running the point from SG it is also nice to have Heads 3 point shooting on the court. SO I can't fault Van Gundy for not currently playing Vspan. My problem with JVG's handling of this situation, outside of the obvious demoralizing screaming of Vspan uncomparable to anyone else on the team, is when there was a chance to play him at the pg JVG never gave him a chance. This is the guys true position it is what he is played the majority of his minutes in his carreer. Even on the National team with 2 other proven pg's he still got significant minutes at the pg.

So what does Van Gundy not see that everyone else does. This kid is a playmaker and only needs playing time and a little bit of encouragement to blossum. It is this continuous doghouse treatment Van Gundy seems to give certain players for no apparent reason other than to prove this kid is not as talented as we think, that continually makes me hate the guy. I am not asking Van Dummy to play Vspan like some on this board. I don't see the minutes there right now. But the idiot never gave him a chance to play at his true position when there were minutes to be had. ANd it seemed his only motive for that was to diminish the medias hype for this guy and prove Vspan who was never his choice was no good. He showed as much when saying he needs to do damage control on the media concerning Vspan or saying he needs to bit Yao's head against the wall for saying the kid is like Nash. Also saying he hates rookies and so does his wife is such a stupid thing to say on so many levels and only shows his Joker mentality. He is moron amongst morons and I only wish for him to be gone. Forget the fact he is a great defensive coach and that a very talented Rockets team is winning. I only wish for him to be gone ASAP. ANd in the mean time I wish Vspan to be sent to the NBDL away from him ASAP. And that's all I have to say about this subject.

I spoke to a Greek man at the game last Friday and he said Billy was pissed and wondering why he was here.

I understand his frustration, but even Juwan cheered for his team earlier this season from the bench when it looked like he wasn't going to play much and that everyone wanted him traded....

Ok, this is stupid. Some of you are worried if someone claps enough? GET A ****ING GRIP. They are not children. NBA players can handle being on the bench, especially young ones. If they can't, you dont want them on your team. NBA players have MILLIONS of dollars to help the pine feel fine.

GET A GRIP. "I worried V-SPAN is will be emotionally scared because he is not playing in his first season......boo hoo...". ARE YOU BUNCH OF WOMEN? The guys was out of the control, he was hurting the team. He will get his chance again....just ask J-Ho.

The Rockets have the power dancers, they are the Cheerleaders. I just because someone doesnt jump up and down are each basket, doesnt mean he is not rooting for his team.......GOD.

Do you have any sort of backup for this statement, or does it just go along with turning a thread about Spanoulis into one about Van Gundy?

If he's moping, then he's a mental midget. Novak and JL3 are up off the bench with the rest of the guys.

If it's just how he is, which is what it looks like to me, then it's just no big deal. TMac and Duncan are pretty stoic, too.

Yeah, even Novak is jumping up pumping his fist and high fiving everyone after a good play.

As for Spanoulis, I can't imagine him being so mentally weak. I think people are reading too much into his bench emotion.
