A bit off topic, but... As a Rockets' fan who works in the Pentagon, I want to share a quick perspective with my fellow fans. Our great country is founded on many freedoms that our fore fathers earned with their blood. Enjoying sports...basketball...Rockets basketball is our given right as Americans. The religious warriors that more than likely executed this spectacular series of attacks have great resolve and despise us more than we can comprehend. As you go forth in your daily lives, pls remember the sacrifices your police, firefighters, and military make to allow us all to enjoy our freedoms. If you ever have the opportunity, thank one of them for their service. Their sacrifices allow us all the freedoms we so easily take for granted. Jordan's comeback just don't seem so important anymore.
Shark, Thank you reminding us about the need to acknowledge who provide us the freedom. You are right that there are many people who make this possible and without there 'work' we would not be enjoying this freedom.. BTW, are there many Rockets fan out there,...or Pentagon is also generally big market supporter...maybe supporting Wizards may also take a positive turn soon...
You're right Shark. I still want the Rockets to get a big man, but I can't get excited right now, and it just seems petty when I think about it. What a horrible time!
Houstone what does that mean? Maybe I am missing something... Shark I am glad that you are ok. Did you have to work today?
I've been in Anapolis all week on business and our company jet is stranded in Baltimore. Today we decided to get away from it all and drive to Raleigh/Durham and wait on a Southwest flight back to Austin. Before leaving we decided that it was important to drive by the Pentagon. I was floored. The damage isn't even as bad the idea of what has happened and make no mistake that the damge was unreal. I have a co-worker who is stranded in Manhattan and she is hysterical. The damage that has been done is so much more than the damage to the buildings. But we will come back stronger. The buildings will be replaced and the lesson we have learned can now spur the type of social commitment to killing the bastards in thier tents and bunkers around the world. We've got the means to avnenge these tragic killings. During the last election a lot of criticism was waged against the state of Texas and it's treatment of murderers. I think as dumb as I feel that Bush is, at least I know that he understands that someone who kills innocent people np longer deserves the right to share the same air with the rest of us.
All, This may only be the beginning of a sustained campaign against our country. Both the President and SECDEF have told us this is not a 90's kind of conflict. It won't be quick Mo. Some of the videos on TV seem staged, almost like bad movie footage, but as Sauce described up close they are much different. They're making us suffer and they'll want us to suffer as they have. The sheer brilliance of using our own planes and people to exact the damage is devastating. These events are incredible, but we've created the situation by being too...you fill it in. These are hardened, combat proven warriors who are fanatical enough to kill themselves for their charismatic leader and their Jihad. It seems bizzare that the world's super power can be ground to a halt by a group of men. Kinda like the lion with the thorn in his foot. America's innocense died on 11 Sep, but unlike Pearl Harbor they didn't fly back to their carriers. We won't be back to normal next Monday. This fight will be long, complicated, and could escalate much quicker than any 6 month Gulf War build-up allowed. Tough times, call for tough measures and tough people. Our fathers, mothers, and grandparents that fought in WW II sacrificed much for this country. Our turn is coming. We need to prepare ourselves for that situation. Hopefully I'm wrong and they've made their mark. I pray. Either way, us sports junkies may not get a fix for awhile. God bless America and all Americans.
No. If they do, Stern will take a hell of a lot of heat for letting play go on. Athletes are people too
