Do the games not support 1080i? I have a HDTV that can support 1080i and everytime I start a game (Resistance, Fight Night) it turns back to 740p or something like that.

I have the PS3 set at 1080i, can anyone help?

Resistance is a native 720p game. I'm not 100% sure about Fight Night, but it probably is too

Here's a JPN Motorstorm impression from a fellow avsforum member.

    "WOW WOW WOW WOW!!!

I am sorry, I realize this might sound like a bit much. But this is one of the greatest games I've played in all my years. And my gaming days go back to pong, Vic-20, Commodore 64, Amiga, and so on and so forth. This is it! This is the one I've been waiting for. I thought it was Forza 2 but no... THIS is it!!!

Ok, now to be as objective as possible. This is the Japanese import which was clearly rushed to market to help Sony sell more PS3's. They left the multiplayer for a later date. They left out replay cameras... but amazingly I am ok with it. The game delivers such solid game play, I am relieved they put it out for us to enjoy until they can deliver the rest of the features with the proper amount of development.

I've only gotten as far as the 3rd ticket, but that has already opened up some amazing tracks. And the variety of vehicles is superb. If you like the demo, go! Run to your nearest importer and spend $70 to get this.

    -The graphics are a 10+
The attention to detail here puts this past a 10. Yeah some of the weeds and flames are obviously textures on cards when you get up real close. But after getting in a 5 vehicle explosive collision without seeing the frame rate drop.. and the amount of shader, model and rigging detail all staying at full resolution without any obvious pop in... my jaw hit the floor.

-The sound is a 10+ as well
You hear EVERYTHING. Turn off the music and crank up the surround because this is the best recreation of engine sounds in a while. The terrain interaction sounds are perfect and match what you see flawlessly. Collisions, gravel and debris hitting your car and others, the supercharger style whine of the boost... it hits hard!

    - Gameplay (this goes to 11 but until the multiplayer I guess I really can't give it more than a 9 )
Right now it is a spectacle, and a primal pleasure to play this game. As you progress towards the faster cars and larger venues (again, I am only up to the third ticket) the racing becomes VERY intense. You fight to the finish line on each lap, sometimes with the entire posse of other vehicles throwing up earth and shedding parts. And there is nothing like driving through the flaming debris of your AI opponents. Or literally exploding across the finish line as you barely make it past an opponent by over boosting. (I NEED REPLAYS!!! GIVE ME REPLAYS!!!)

Seriously, perhaps I am just partial to this kind of game. But I can only think of a few other games that have come close to having this kind of impact on me. Halo1 on the Xbox, Half Life1 on the PC, and back on the PS1: GT1 & Rally Cross.

Ok, sorry if that sounds excessive or too subjective. I just had to share my enthusiasm.

I was releived that I am not alone in this sentiment Kikizo felt mostly the same when they previewed the beta release"

Playsyde has some videos from the demo, including a lap with a Ferrari:

(they also have some MotorStorm videos in HD if you want to check those out)

The game still needs a lot of work (particularly on the environments...they have a lot of time to work on that though), but I'm still pretty amazed by the car models and the lighting. Getting pretty close to "photo-realistic" graphics.

One cool thing is that I believe you can watch replays of the 5 best ranked players on your PS3 (by streaming or downloading it to your PS3).

Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection is on the PS Store in the Asian and Japanese regions (not in the US region yet...maybe never?). You can make a new account (for Asia or Japan) that will let you buy it if you want (costs ~$16, ~800MB download IIRC), although I'm not sure I would really recommend it (some risks in doing so). Nevertheless, here are some directions from MarkMan at NeoGAF on how to do that:

A lot more reasons to buy a PS3 than there were a month ago (at least in Japan). Probably still needs some more stuff to justify the price, but things are picking up nicely IMO.

no crap...yeah, about $25, but you'll have to update the software to make it work, if you haven't already...the control works, but i guess i'm use to having a remote...did you finally get the receiver working...i did, but now the sound only works if my receiver is on...I still need to tweak some stuff...

You need to find one of the lighted blue 'x' the go to change team. You're stuck with the basic 4 until about half way through the first stage.

I'm not too far yet. I've met Elektra and a Iron man. Is that too early in the game. It just kind of sucks cause Captain America and Thor are dead and I have to fight with only Spiderman and Wolverine.

if you're at a part of the game where you're already losing characters your way past the first save/change team points.

also once you get to stark towers, which is really early, you can freely change characters there too.

RC, you've gotta be kidding me. Those are the GRAPHICS? They look like still photos or at the most FMVs for cutscenes or something.

I picked up a 3 and Resistance, but unfortunately I don't have any component cables and my TV only has 480p and 1080i (which Sony, in their infinite wisdom, doesn't support yet). The game looks horrible. About on par with a PS2 shooter. I must rectify this situation immediately. Unfortunately, I can't afford a new TV and HDMI cables yet. Maybe in a couple (or few) paychecks...

Assuming you're talking about GTHD (the arcade version of Tekken 5 doesn't look that good ;))...

They're not gameplay graphics, but graphics from the replays (still realtime/in-engine, but not quite the same). Gameplay looks more like this:

IIRC, gameplay is at 60FPS while the replays are 30 FPS with motion blur (plus all the other tricks to add to the visuals). It does look frightening real at times, although it has same aliasing issues (even at 1080p) and the environments need a lot of work. Damage and weather effects are missing as well (both are apparently in the works for GT5). The game is still a long ways away though, and it has come pretty far in the last few months (looked like a PS2 game in HD just a few months ago).

Some comparisons to blow your mind:

You might as well check it out for yourself now that your have your PS3. The game still looks nice (IMO) in 480i/p; the following pics (IIRC) were taken from a SDTV:
Tons of pics in the NeoGAF thread for GTHD, including some from Forza 2 and PGR3...for some reason:
    http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=135113&page=30

BTW, the PS3 does support 1080i for games. What it can't do is scale games that natively support 720p to 1080i (the 360 can do this). IOW, if you can find some games that support 1080i natively, they should play in 1080i on your TV. For some reason though, a lot of games don't support 1080i (including Resistance and some other games from Sony...great job guys).

I think this is something that can be fixed in a future update. At one time, it was speculated that the PS3 didn't have an internal scaler, but I think I later read that it does have one...it just doesn't work right at this time or something (and devs can't touch it IIRC). If you were looking to get a new TV anyway, go ahead, but I might wait a little while to see if they can fix it with a firmware update (hopefully they'll get it fixed before you can even get the chance to look into getting new TV).
