They can express those urges the way they already do: free choice of a palm or finger grip! I wonder if other parents knew that there was a basket of free condoms in the infirmary? My point was about parental preference; if you've read my other comments, I think the boy got hosed in addition to blown.
No matter whether you think it is wrong or not to have sex at that young age, the question is whether or not is is illegal for a 17 year old to have sex with someone just 2 years younger. Considering that he is still considered a minor and the minimal age difference, I think it is ridiculous that he is going away to jail for so long. Your morality doesn't play into it here. Stealing is illegal. Violence can be illegal. Drinking at that age and smoking weed is illegal. Sex between minors, IMO, should not be. It is a stupid law.
I don't think it is stupid but I do beleive it is a bit too severe [as I previously stated ] I think Clearly *something* should have been done Something needed to be done to state. . this is unacceptable so . . 16 is the age of consent. . . having sex with 15 yrs olds is out. . . even if you are 15 yourself Is this the law? or just a societal agreed upon norm? I have already agreed . . .10 yrs is too much that is about as much life in prison as he has had in school I know also . . 12 yr olds are having sex [teachers I talk to . . .tell stories of BJs in the stairwells etc] QUESTION: What should be done about this? Punish the parents? Give them Condoms? How would you demonstrate to them that this is unacceptable? *Is* it unacceptable? [this is just a question because i don't wanna start a new thread and i know 15 and 17 are entirely different . . but how do you feel we should show that this is something that is unacceptable?] Rocket River
I think it is unacceptable. As unacceptable as is smoking, drinking, doing drugs, beating up other kids, etc. The difference being that all those other things someone is doing something illegal. Either providing the cigarettes, alcohol, or drugs or doing something violent. In this case it is unacceptable simply because my personal opinion says that it is unacceptable. However, I don't think my opinion should be law. If it's my personal opinion that something like this shouldn't happen, then I need to instill that same opinion into my kids. If I'm not successful at that then it is a failure on my part. If you're saying that you want it to be illegal for two minors to have sex then shouldn't the girl also go to jail? Or is it because the guy was older? So the older of the two goes to jail? What is the rule here? 10 years for a BJ? 20 for actual intercourse? Real rapists get less than that.
The girl should be punished as well. The older does bear more responsibility I don't think JAIL is necessary . . at leas 10 years 6 months max ONE MORE THING [not to you specifically] If you cool with this. . no punishment whatsoever please don't ever b*tch about teen preganancy, again because it seems like it is just lip service. . it would seem you like you don't want teen pregnancies but not willing to actually *do* anything to discourage it. Rocket RIver
River, I admire your convictions, but the problem is that most teens are going to experience sex. And, putting them behind bars for doing what comes natural (experimentation) is beyond lunacy. DD
Well, perhaps if we taught sexual education in school at an early age it wouldn't be such a huge problem. Perhaps if parents could set aside their "religious/political/moral/NO you’re going to hell for having sex before marriage" beliefs for a few seconds and not be so freaking naive about teen sex, we would actually see some lower teen pregnancy rates. To sentence a young boy for receiving a BJ from a 15 yrs old girl, come on, that is just insane! And one more thing….why should we “discourage it”? I am not saying that we should tell our teens to go out and have a bunch of sex with random people, but we should ENCOURAGE them to use protection and to stay safe. Teach them that sex is something beautiful and great, teach them that if, for some reason they feel the need to experiment before marriage to use protection. Take your teen daughter to the family clinic and put her on the pill. Making sex “taboo” and dirty is what gets us in trouble. I just don’t understand why people are so freaking scared of sex.
