Its not just McGrady that went to him, Roddick apparently sent some recommendations McGrady's way. But you are right, when it comes to back treament... shesh every individual is unique. I would imagine that people would consider his treatment quack since he isn't a licensed PHD. He is a therapist, therapist performs the hands on work of rehabilitating people. Alternative treatment or not, as long as it works. I would trust a therapist that has many years of hands on treatment experience.

If he is really healed I think you should see his shooting improve drastically. He will never Michael Redd but mid 40's should be possible again.

Sounds like Tmac's back is a posture related condition. I know from personal experience and also trying several modes of treatment, that his back spasms are most likely due to incorrect posture. When he talks about his flat feet and how they were able to bring his arches back a little, it really sounds like something posture related. Basically his body is out of correct posture and certain muscles are inactive while others are having to overcompensate, creating an imbalance and further creating these back spasms. The problem I see now is the mode of treatment he's seeking may help stimulate his inactive muscles, but they're going to go back to being inactive unless he corrects his posture. There's a reason why there are imbalances and until his body is taught to correct itself, not using outside stimulation, I'd predict the spasms to continue. The one mode of treatment I've found to actually do this is Muscle Balance and Function (http://www.musclebalancefunction.com/) and it's worked wonders for me. I also had flat feet, a symptom of certain muscles not being used due to incorrect posture and after getting my program, the arches came back. Back pain, shoulder pain, elbow pain...all gone.

Absolutely, I would trust an experienced therapist over almost any MD when it comes to the spine. But then my wife is a chiropractor. Never underestimate experience unless it is a washed up old Knick.

If you asked my opinion I would say it is more of irritated nerve in the back. The spasms are just a symptom of that irritaion Just like a fever is the result of an infection and not the cause of the illness. A spasm is the body's way of stopping motion to protect an injured or irritated joint.

The body can sustain a spinal injury from one big trauma such as an auto accident but I think in Tracy's case it was more likely the buildup of many small traumas from the heavy lifting he was doing in the off season to bulk up.

Of course that is just a guess but it makes sense to me.

Excuse me for being so cynical, but I have a hard time believing Tracy's problems are over. There is nothing I would love to believe more, but there is a much greater chance the guy is pretty much finished in terms of ever being a top 10 player again than there is for one unconventional massage session to have fixed everything.

If this guy John Patterson is correct, or if McGrady goes for a good long while without any episodes...

:D + a dash of  and maybe some :) and probably some  that this didn't happen sooner might be what I'd feel.

As for the rest of the league???

    :(

    BUT IF HE ISN'T:

 + + :( = all of us on this board.

Heh did anyone notice that John Patterson's initials are...

    JP!!!!!

    Not good. :p

Like Tracy said.. pretty much along the lines of so far so good. But the good news is that as long as he immediately feels better due to treatment of a specific problem, that at least means that they understand the exact nature of his back problem much better than before.

If Tracy is said to have the similar back problems to Roddick than chaulk it up to a pinched nerve.

I'm just wondering why the hell it took so long for the Rockets to send McGrady to this Patterson guy. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this treatment sticks and prevents future injuries. I have my doubts, but Patterson's enthusiasm/optimism can be convincing.

Patterson's methods are considered "alternative". Maybe the rockets medical staff and trainers are too skeptical of his treatment methods and exhausted all "approved" by MD treatment methods. Sometimes which it come to therapy, there isn't an exact science to it. But if the therapy immediate works after all others have failed, its a confidence builder for sure.

my thinking is, first and foremost, that I doubt its the last we're gonna hear about McGradys back.

But even if it is, he seems much more restricted now. They are saying fatigue but from what i've seen an heard he's looked like a 60 year old man getting up and down the floor - bending over and breathing hard every other moment.

His back may be somewhat improved, but its certainly not enough to get us over the hump. We need role players to be big, and we need Yao back at 6 weeks. Any longer than that and we are probably out of the race, January is SUCH a tough month schedule-wise.

This is great news, but you can never say never.

Don't go by what you've heard...DUDE DID MISS 7 OR SO GAMES, give him some time to get his wind back and confidence together again.

Funny how with a 60-70% T-Mac we're 1-1 this season and should have won the Pacers game, and are heading into the softest part of our schedule yet people still want to hate on him. T-Mac is STILL a superstar and will carry this team until Yao comes back.

It sounds good to me, but is the specialist not a little bit too ..... optimistic?
