From the look of the deal it looks like the Giants got screwed too.

    What a ridiculous contract.

Man. Think about what Oswalt would have commanded had we let him hit the open market. His 5 year/ 72 million contract is an absolute bargain.

Same with Berkman. Good job signing those guys before they hit the open market.

maybe i'm a little ignorant when it comes to contracts with pitchers.

but what contract is considered a decent length for a starting pitcher?

i'm guessing by the reactions here, not 7 years lol.

    but 4-5?

They said on 790 earlier that it could be as high as 8 years 144 Million. Maybe there's an optional 8th year. CRAZY.

I bet he is pissed. He could have gotten way more from us in free agency.

wow. oswalt may have been the new majority owner of the team if we had let him on the market. not that i can really feel bad for someone making 14 million a year, but i feel bad knowing how underpaid he's going to be relative to guys who aren't even as good as him (not that zito isn't good).

Oswalt should fire his agent. Boras knew the open market would be insane this summer and several of his clients have benefited. Oswalt probably left $50-60MM on the table by not testing the open market.
