With school taking up most of my time, I dont really have time to read on the side. I have my break and I want to knock out at least 2 or 3 books while I can. Today I go to Barnes and Nobles only to find that I could have walked out of there with at least 20 books...stayed there for about 45 min and left with nothing. I have no clue what's good and what's not...so I need some help here. Any books that are a must-read?
what's your interest? non-fiction? fiction? memoirs? history? Here's some fiction: I am into Salman Rushdie. 'The Moor's Last Sigh' was pretty good. I also like Haruki Murakami -- try 'Kafka on the Shore'. If you want something short, 'Indecision' by Benjamin Kunkel was pretty funny. 'The Futurist' by James Othmer was also funny, an easy read, and topical.
Yeah, tell us what kind of books you like. Off the top of my head... Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card, The Story of B by Daniel Quinn, Wartime Lies by Louis Begley are three of my favorites. To make it easy: Just buy Ender's Game and be done with it

I second "Everything is Illuminated." Also, check out the Chuck Palahnuik section. "Choke," "Lullaby" and of course "Fight Club" are winners. "My Friend Leonard" by James Frey (true or untrue) is an amazing book. And anything by Steinbeck is pure gold.
Thanks for the help...my interests are very broad. Only things Im not into are sci-fi kinda stuff... Fiction such as Crichton, Grisham, etc...basically, easy reads. Im always up for non-fictions, biographies, sports, business, etc... I was considering reading Barack Obama's first book, Dreams From My Father and then following that up with his latest. Keep em coming, I need to make a list.
May I suggest "Green Eggs and Ham" by Dr. Suess. It has a very popular Houstonian that many here may appreciate named "Sam I Am".
Every time I have to give a graduation gift to someone, I include the self help classic Psycho Cybernetics by Maxwell Maltz. I read my copy once a year. This book changed my life.
Julian by Gore Vidal Aztec by Gary Jennings Enders Game by Orson Scott Card That should hold ya and you can thank me later.
All these came out in 2006 and I found them very enjoyable: The Road- Cormac McCarthy. Great if you like dark, apocalyptic books. The Night Gardener- George Pelecanos. Police detective novel. It was a page turner for me. The Emperor's Children- Claire Messud. Great novel about priviledged friends living in New York.
