If Rafer did the exact opposite of what the original poster is complaining about, there'd probably be a thread b****ing about that.
moreover, at the all star game, it only takes like 6 shots for those 3 player teams to sink in a half court shot... .001 for 3/4 court or so is just... wrong.no momentum is lost trying the shot and missing, but imagine momentum coming out of a made shot...
Sorry, but given the situation our team is in right now, I have to say "who cares." I have a problem with many aspects of Rafer's game, but the fact that Rafer does not heave 90-foot prayers does not bother me that much. Rafer missing 2-foot layups, on the other hand, is of great concern to me.
Why would i complain with a rafer missing a full court shot. I don't understand why you would post that. YOu've posted over 100 times more than me. now i know how you got there.
LOL, I agree. They would say Rafer should not lower his FG%, because his trade value would go down the tubes
It's a shame that you can't recognize an exaggeration. Look in the mirror before you start calling other posters moronic. Of all the possible things you could complain about this team, you're complaining about something where the chance of even making the shot is not even 1%. This is just a suggestion, but maybe you should instead criticize the offensive plays where the ball ACTUALLY HAS A CHANCE OF GOING IN WITHOUT LUCK. Trust me, there have been plenty of real Rockets' offensive possessions that self-destructed. Worry about those first. Besides, the only times I've seen Rafer not attempt a shot like that is when he's a lot closer to a full court distance from the basket than a mid court distance. If any player is at least close to mid-court, they would attempt the shot, since you can actually use a decent shooting form instead of literally throwing it up to the basket. If we're trailing in the 4th by 3 points or less, we would attempt the shot regardless of how far they are from the basket.
Apparently you can't comprehend an exaggeration either. Rafer would take a half court shot because there's a better chance of it going in. You can actually use your real shooting form to make a half court shot. With a full court shot, all you can do is aim for the general direction of the basket, so there's virtually no chance. You're being very generous calling it a 3/4 shot because Rafer is a lot closer to the baseline than 3/4. Those people participating in that all-star game are not being defended, there's no buzzer to worry about, and they can shoot it however they want to because it doesn't matter if you travel. You can use a running start or just spot up. That is a bullsh!t comparison.
Yeah, and you know what? It didn't count. You know why? Because T-Mac intentionally jacked it up late, knowing it wouldn't affect his 3pt FG%. The reason why he shot it after the buzzer is that if he makes it, he'd still be on SportsCenter and impress the fans. Even R2K included that clip in his highlight vid. Nothing to lose there for T-Mac. Not to mention that it wasn't even a full court shot. It was more like 3/4.
how about when he is running on a fast break and he has a defender on him and a teammate on the other side and instead of running to one side with the defender and then pass to his teammate on the other side for a layup, he runs towards his teammate bringing the defender with him and pretty much loses the 2 on 1 advantage
Man for real, complain about anything you possibly can huh? It's the same idea as football. Take a knee at halftime. Don't risk a turnover, seeing as we love turning the ball over. I've never seen any issue with the guys holding the ball at halves lately, usually b/c we haven't been playing so well. So I just want them to get to halftime.
"Moron... it's called a "Free roll" let x = percentage of making shot, such that x > 0. Expected value of attempting a shot = 3x. Expected value of not shooting = 3 * 0 = 0 note that 0 < 3x. Therefore, for the good of the team, you should ALWAYS attempt the shot.
Don't tell us that. We're the posters, not the players. The players are the ones who are basically refusing to take full-court shots. Trust me, if they were 2/3 or closer to the basket, they would take the shot. It would seem logical to at least try the shot because there is always a slight chance of making it, but there's no reason to criticize them if they don't take it. I have no problem with this at all. There are plenty of REAL offensive possessions that have not worked due to lack of execution. The players, coaches, and fans should be worrying about those, and not shots that have an extremely slight chance of going in in the first place. Once again, even if the Rockets attempted the shot every time so far in the season, I guarantee you that we make one full-court shot maximum ALL YEAR. For those that don't know, that LeBron James' Powerade commercial is not real. NBA players cannot physically make full court shots using their actual shooting stance. Most of the time, the players that do attempt it use one hand and throw it like a quarterback would. Just try to aim for the general direction of the basket and pray. Oh, and let me complete the math logic that you did not finish: The chance of making a full court shot, x, does exist such that x > 0, but you forgot to mention the small fact that x is still extremely small. The Rockets' logic is that x is so small that: x ~ 0 (x is approximately zero) Therefore, expected value of shooting ~ expected value of not shooting, or 3x ~ 0 Is that simple enough for you?
Rafer is doing a good job distributing the ball. I have seen some past games where he did not turn the ball over.
