I like Lewis very much, but that guy could be a 2nd T-Mac right now ... he is vulnerable (he 's last game against Dallas)! Injury here, injury there ... I don 't know guys!
NO THANK YOU!!!!! Battier is one of the best defender in the league and Head is our best shooter, he has the potential to be an excellent role player in a Champion team!!
Arg, I can't make my mind up on this. The fantasy basketball part of me is screaming 'DO IT! DO IT! HE'S THE NUMBER 1 RANKED PLAYER IN FSPI RANKINGS!!!! DO IT!@$!#@$r' Another part of my mind says "Dude, he's injured'. Having a damn hard time now.....but given that Rashard Lewis is having a career year (a bit like Kevin Martin but not that big a leap) and with Ray Allen out he's been absolutely monsterous, I'd say do it. But Seattle will never do it. Seattle GM: A player who averages only 10 points per game (and less this season) with a sophomore that's a 3-point shooter? Heck, we already have that in Rashard, why split him into two mediocre players?
If we were able to get Rashard Lewis in the off - season without losing assets, or trade something we do not need-is this possible? How desparate is Seattle? Do the Rashard fans want to give up a valuable asset to get Rashard Lewis? Would the Rashard Lewis fans support bringing Rudy back as a scout so Rashard could beat him with a sharp stick? Can Rashard defend well enough for Van Gundy? these are just questions I'm pondering....
Hell no. Battier is here for defense and hustle, head shoots that three. Lewis can stay where he's at. This trade also means a shorter bench than we already have. I dont count the rookies they are not ready. Padgett can be good a few games for a few minutes. Deke does a little backup yao. With all the trade talk, just wait a week and t-mac will be back and all will be good. Just hope he'll stay on long enough to secure a playoff spot and is ready for april may june.
I'd do this trade in a heartbeat! I like Battier and Head. But Rashard is a veteran and is still very young. He easily fills the "3rd scorer" role on this team and helps spread the floor. His durability is an issue but I still make the deal. He adds quickness and length to the front court which is also a bonus. Any of you that hated giving up Rudy Gay in the Battier trade should love the idea of getting a "proven" veteran in Rashard Lewis. Lewis probably is Gay's upside anyway. I can actually see the Sonics considering this type of deal considering they may lose Rashard to FA if he opts out and the franchise is at a turning point right now. They might want to pair down salary and Battier is under a decent deal.
Wow...you must think quite highly of Rashard to make that trade...we trade our future and our present for someone who is obviously so good that even with Ray Allen he can't get his team to the playoffs. We trade a promising rookie (Novak), a spark plug of the bench in Snyder, a promising european player who is also a fan favorite (V-Span), our best outside shooter and best bench player (Head) and a first round pick in one of the deepest drafts in a long time for a guy we passed on in the second round years ago. Wow...that's all I have to say
so you won't trade battier for Rasheed Wallace? yao/sheed/tmac/wells/skip much better than yao/hayes/battier/tmac/skip
I'm not disputing the impact a guy like Rashard could have on our offense, it's our defense that has me worried. No matter where you would play Rashard, either the 3 or 4, he automatically forms the softest swingman or 3/4 duo along with McGrady. Rashard is a horrible defender that hates having to get physical or engage in any form of contact. Battier is exactly like Bruce Bowen. All intangibles, incredibly smart and plays with a ton of energy. There aren't many NBA players that show up every night and look forward to chasing and harrassing the opponent's best player. Is it really any coincidence that we add Battier and all of a sudden our overall team defense improved by leaps & bounds? There are two factors that make us legit candidates for a deep playoff run: 1) Yao and our inside/outside game. JVG's strategy of "Feeding the big man til he can't eat anymore" is our ticket to success. Yao might be the most dominant and unguardable player in the league right now. 2) Our Defense - It's simply the best. We play boring slow paced basketball that keeps the score low and consquently keeps us within striking distance of taking any game over at any given point. If you take away Battier I don't think it's a stretch of the imagination to assume our defense will suffer greatly. P.S. Has anybody even pointed out yet that this trade is impossible since we aren't sending out enough salary?
I think Rasheed is overrated, and also this guy is very unstable: one night he could be 20/10, and the next night he gives you 7points and 5 rebounds. Also, his contract is too big.
ok, lets end this idea here and now: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2706477 so can we end this thread idea now?
I would not do it if JVG is the coach, but if he quit or got fired, then I'd be all for it. The potential that a Rashard/Yao/T-Mac trio has is something you can't ignore, but in JVG's system, that potential wouldn't be exploited to the max and frankly, Battier fits JVG's system better than Rashard would. With three huge scorers like that, we can afford to have Chuck Hayes at PF doing nothing but playing defense and grabbing rebounds. What we CANNOT have is Chuck Hayes and Battier both on the floor struggling to score 8-10 points in 40 minutes, especially when T-Mac is out. Fully healthy and with JVG as coach, this team is better off without this trade. It would be nice to have a Rashard/Wells duo at swingman when T-Mac's out though. It would be damn nice.
