Has anyone ever seen this before? i was looking at some pictures through another thread and came about this sport. Basically looks like volleyball but you can't use your hands. Apparently it's big in Asia and Europe. You use your feet to hit or block the ball. Anything but your hands. Check out this picture of a slam shot, it's pretty freaking amazing. If you google the name of the sport you will find pics all over the place but it's definently a sport that takes some balls to play. http://www.pusanweb.com/asiangames/sepaktakraw/sepaktakraw.htm
Looks like clips from the Matrix to me. I've seen people play soccer/volleyball a few times on the beach. Basically it's as you described. My guess is it evolved from people who wanted to play soccer while at the beach, but there were only volleyball nets (which is typically true on beaches) so they improvised. Maybe someone out there better informed could clue me in. In any case this looks like a very professional setting, it would be cool to see this stuff on ESPN. Better than World's Strongest Man or 8 hrs of Monday Night Football pregame. No, as much hype as you can throw at me still won't make me look forward to watching New England and Minnesota. Bicycle kicks are probably the most spectacular method of scoring in all sports to me, so this looks like I'd be entertained.
gotta love youtube; it's the future, and Cuban's an idiot. <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/LXmjOMUdsPY"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/LXmjOMUdsPY" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/q9q5jBtT_0g"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/q9q5jBtT_0g" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>

I am so impressed! Those guys who "spike" the ball are awesome! That's some serious acrobatics. It's sort of like a hacky-sack / volleyball mashup.
Wow, this is officially the most badass sport ever. I've seen a little of this in Brazil, but didn't know it was an official game.
OK enough of this.. I wanna see the ankle twists and sprains I mean there has to be a high number of injuries to this..
yeah, ive seen this. I think it's popular in Thailand, and other south east asian countries. I've seen some folks dabble in this.
I've played takraw before.. it's especially popular among the Malay community in Singapore. Wasn't quite athletic enough to do the overhead kicks, but otherwise all you really need is a fair level of ball control with your feet, thighs, chest and head - not a completely different skillset from football. The ball is made of rattan, though, so it doesn't bounce much and it can hurt. Not an easy sport to play..
Amazing sport. The difference in athleticism between the men and women remind me of the NBA vs the WNBA.
It's like hackey sack on steroids. Amazing. I can't imagine doing this at a high level for very long. My joints hurt just watching it.
Until I saw the youtube videos (thanks, btw) I didn't realize the ball was that small! I thought it would be soccer/volleyball sized. What's next, are people going to be throwing darts at them mid-point?
There was a great picture in SI: http://cache.gettyimages.com/xc/92080920.jpg?v=1&c=BGINS_SI&k=2&d=29738079E773206D814F9BFDE062DB15 Except, I believe they had it zoomed in real close to the server...
