Yes it happened. The deal was done. Alexander went to Edmonton. It was 85 million dollar bid. The NHL gave Edmonton some time to match that price and at the very last minute the Edmonton Investors Group came up with the money and have stayed put since.

Its really no big deal to me. Hockey is fun to watch, but I really don't see a market here in Houston. I'd love to have a team just so we have another sport to root for, but I am not going to kill myself for not having a team either.

But just think how cool that would've been if they did move the Oilers here. Aeros, Rockets, and Oilers (if the deal went through) were bought with those names and moved to Houston. It fits so well.

I have never been a real big hockey guy but I do enjoy going to a few aeros games in person, it a terrible product on tv.

Imagine if we got this team and drafted VY, we would have VY, Crosby and Yao in the same city,

Heck maybe they will win a title al la los dynamo aehh?

    C'mon Les!
The WHA days of Gordie,Mark, and Marty Howe ring forth from my youth.

Like many here,I've waited a long time for the NHL to land in Houston..and finally it appears our time is at hand.

The political turmoil which prevented us from getting a NHL team last time doesn't exist anymore.

With the consolidation of power complete and people working on the same page,it's just a matter of time.

Oh how I miss Jerry Trupiano calling the games....

(in that ratcheted up accent)Here's Tonelli now with the puck,up to Mark Howe on the right wing...looking for help, looking for help.....over to Cam Connor!...Shot,he scores!!!!Cam Connor from Mark Howe!

Unless I'm misreading this, it looks highly unlikely it will be Houston.

    Lemieux: Penguins to explore relocation

PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Pittsburgh Penguins are off the market, and owner Mario Lemieux says the team will look at relocating.

"It is time to take control of our own destiny," Hall of Famer Lemieux said in a statement issued by the team Thursday.
The Penguins are now free to move when the season ends following a state panel's rejection Wednesday of a casino company's offer to build the team a new arena for free.

Lemieux said talks will begin shortly with state and local leaders about a new arena, but added a move outside Pennsylvania is another option.

"Accordingly, starting today, the team is off the market," Lemieux said, "and we will begin to explore relocation offers in cities outside Pennsylvania."

I don't know...I haven't taken geography in a while, but I think Houston is located outside Pennsylvania. ;)

Personally, I think the NHL needs to step in like David Stern is doing for Sacramento. You can't let a team with a history as rich as the Penguins just up and leave town.

it's not gonna happen in Houston if anyone but Les is the owner. so if the current ownership group wants to stay in place, it won't be here in houston.

    Will do. :)

Of course, if they move to KC and I end up moving to Missouri in the next year or two, then that wouldn't be all bad.

    good point...hadn't thought of that!

if i had to bet, i'd bet they'll end up there. my understanding is that the situation there is much more permissive for current owners to retain ownership and simply relocate the franchise there.

Oh my freaking gawd, MadMax and RM95...maybe after your little hockey date is over, the team will let you two skate around on the ice while Endless Love is playing on the PA system...

I hope so. But with the new agreement, these teams won't be moving nearly as frequently. It is used to be almost completely impossible to make money with a team playing anywhere in Canada other than Montreal and Toronto. That's not the case anymore. The great exodus of teams from Canada is over...to the point where the NHL has expressed interest in returning to some of those lost markets. There's some thought that the Pens will end up in Ontario.
