OK, I'm trying to decide between an iPod and a day at the spa.

Day at the spa (Urban Retreat) would be a massage, facial [insert vulgar joke here], manicure, pedicure, lunch. It would be 4 hours. I know she would love it, but 4 hours later, will she even remember it? I want to make a good impression, since this is our first Christmas together.

I dropped a hint about an iPod and she said she wouldn't use it. But then I told her that she can use it when she runs (every night) and/or does her pilat..her palate....her butt workout [insert vulgar joke here] and she said "well, that's a good point." Does that mean she would use it?

I'm leaning towards the iPod, but $200 is a lot to spend on something that she MAY not use. Maybe once I show her how to use it, she would.

So help a bbs brother out. Input from bbs chicks would be especially helpful.

    Merry Christmas, everybody!

Ipod. Tell her if she ends up not using it, you can sell it for something else. And you can get a video Ipod for 240.

I got my wife one of those SPA thingies from the Urban Retreat as well. She loved it, but she didn't use it until pro'lly a year later :(

You know, I contemplated BOTH of these choices before I bought her something this year. We already have an iPod, but we just can't find it, and it would have been too expensive.

Anyway, you sound like me when it comes to choices for wives.

EDIT - On the other hand, think about it this way:
If you buy her an iPod, she'll keep if for ages and may or may not use it, but she will remember you gave it to her and will take care of it as a symbol of your gift :) .
If you get her the SPA thingie, she'll use it once, maybe twice or three times (that's if she doesn't do the entire spa thing one day), and then it's gone.

Get the Ipod and load it up with Rush songs so she won't listen to it. Then confiscate later for yourself. Chicks love that kind of thing.

Getting her an ipod at this point would be dumb. don't go that route. if you aren't in love with the spa gift, you have to think of something completely new.

another tip - buy multiple items of lesser dollar amounts. Getting one great item is cool and all, but multiple items extends the joy of opening presents, and, even though you may not be spending quite as much on one great item, your odds of hitting a great gift on at least one or two of the items increases.

If she likes to read, get her a B&N gift card and a magazine subscription, maybe a gift card to one of her favorite clothing stores, I find Central Market or Whole Foods tend to have some neat little knick-knack gifts, maybe if she likes to cook something from Williams Sonoma, and then maybe still a gift thing for Urban Retreat but not for the whole day....

...that's how I roll, at least

Giving a Spa gift on a day they can't use it is nothing but gift certificate. Gift certificates are bad ideas for gfs. The Spa thing would work on a bday, anniversary, Valetine's day used that day as the primping/preening/prepping stage of a day-long date, followed by dinner, the real gift, and sex. It work well on those day-long date days.

for xmas--it's just a gift certificate. nice gift certificate, but I recommend a tangible gift for xmas.

ok . . that was so stupid
    funny as hell
    and
strangely enough . . I would not be surprised if it was on MTV as a
    real song and video

I agree with JayZ750 here. Getting a bunch of little things is much more fun for sure. But if you're still deciding jewelry is always a good option.

I knew it! I don't know a single girl who wouldn't want one. I recently bought 2 and spent about 520 with tax. It's definitely not worth it, but what else are you going to do
