http://money.cnn.com/popups/2006/real_estate/best_worst/3.html There are a bunch of ratings here for a bunch of categories listing cities that are safest, smartest, most dangerous, etc. Anyhow, Austin ranked in the top 5 in their poll criteria. (undergrad degree) Top 5: Smartest City Percentage of residents with undergraduate degree Seattle, WA 52.7% San Francisco, CA 50.1% Raleigh, NC 50.1% Washington, DC 45.3% Austin, TX 44.1%
Yeah. I imagine one of the largest public universities being located here has nothing to do with this. Having spent 3.5 years here, if Austin is one of the top-5 smartest cities in the country, we're in serious trouble. Shouldn't they be talking straight number of undergrad degrees and not a percentage, anyway?
It's going by percentage of population with at least an undergraduate degree. Don't forget, there are plenty of stupid people out there with undergrad degrees. But, I think it really demonstrates Austin's graduate-retention factor as a city more than it does UT's enrollment totals. 44% of Austin's population is 304,101 - UT's student populous totals 49,738. Only ~15,000 recent graduates with any excuse to still be around. So, why do so many come here for the degree and decide to stay for good?
For the Vito from Jimmy Johns. I admit I have had a few dirnks tobight, but damn a Vito sounds good right about now
You know why Houston isn't in the top 5? They were stupid for not to draft Vince Young. At least Austin got him and they were rewarded with a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP.
Ouch... Austin is the best city in Texas and Vince Young is one of the greatest college football players ever, but mentioning his name in a thread like this... Ouch...
I'm going to be in Vegas in 2 weeks, I will be ClutchCity on the craps table! also i'm going to be #10 on roulette (Vince Young, Cassell) last time I did well on #34 , #33, #17 Dream, Otis, Mario
Really? Didn't you go there about the same time last year? I remember you making a post about it. I might be there also, but I'm not sure yet. My friend always goes there for CES. I also bet #34 if I ever get the chance! But I usually stick to poker and blackjack.
Is that limited to a certain size of city? Because where I live, a college town, the BA or higher rate is like about 70% (but we only have around 29k people).
lol...so predictable. i had a feeling this thread couldn't get passed the first page w/o tinman mentioning VY.
