After reading an article from the chronicle about focusing on fixing the Texans instead of faulting them I looked back at some scouting reports to find out some weakness David Carr had in the first place. So I stumbled upon an old article where a writer by the name of Warszawski was being interviewed about David Carr after his senior season. I skimmed through the article and noticed the conference Carr played in (the WAC) has piss poor pass defense which allowed Carr to rack the yardage he did his senior year. I read that if Carr has a fault he's too nice and too accomodating. Some of the other negatives is that he stares down his receivers. It took him 3 years (played behind Volek) before he actually started to make a name for himself and had decent coaching, o-line, and a below average running back. David Carr article Fresno's team during Carr's senior season seems similar to the one the Texans put out on the field these days and I was thinking what would the Texans have to do pull Carr out of the wreckage? How would we remake the Texans more similar to the Fresno team him played with? How do you make someone tougher? Should we give him more receivers that can catch his laser beam throws since he's always staring at them? I don't know how many critical passes have been dropped but can someone get a figure? With the NFL draft approaching us once again everyone is wanting a new QB. After reading Carr's scouting report along with the QB's in this upcoming draft there isn't such a huge difference and we would basically start all over again. I'd say give Carr one more year under this system with some help from the o-line and if doesn't work out half way through next season then do what they have to do. Carr has been under different systems in the past 5 years so it's kinda like getting a new job every other year, no one is great after 1 year at there new job. I'm not a Carr apologizer (I actually want Kevin Kolb to be drafted) but in all fairness Carr has been beaten up, virtually had no o-line or running game, have played in different systems all within 5 years. No other QB has been through all that and still lead the league in passing percentage. I believe Kubiak can do something with him yet because if every coach on the Texans still agree that David Carr is there man I'm with them. They've seen David Carr in practice more and can analyze him far better than anyone of us else can.
I don't think this would work out. Texan fans want something to happen now. If you give Carr another year and he doesn't perform up to par, you're risking alot for this team.( Ex. Coaches, another rebuild year, etc.) I'd say give it to Sage or Plummer for a year, groom our QB from this next years draft and go from there.
Dont draft a quarterback this year. Put the pick to better use. Get a quarterback in FA or get a QB like kevin kolb in later rounds. Dont waste a #1 or #2 pick on QB though. Thats a waste. We have much bigger needs.
The only way you are going to fix Carr is with a heart transplant. I understand that its been a difficult five years. The last two have been mind-boggling because during the 2004 season, Carr showed quite a bit of promise and enough glimmers that it looked like we going in the right direction. After that debacle against the Browns is when the wheels came off the wagon. Carr has the physical skills and has a cannon for an arm, but he lack the heart and competitive fire that makes a player great. I understand that he is nice guy, but so is Yao and he's starting to get pissed off. If the Texans retain Carr and give him another chance thats fine, Kubiak and Co. know far more about football than I do. If they decide to bring another veteran or give the job to Rosenfels thats fine as well as long as they start winning. With two games left I hope Carr leaves it all out on the field. Play aggressive and have fun.
I say draft a qb and let him sit behind Sage for a season. Plummer is nothing to write home about. He looked no different from Carr this season.
I'd probably take him at this point. At least it would be something new and would give a glimmer of hope. Plus he's used to people b****ing about him
Definitely not. I defended Carr, but this was the year he was supposed to show he could be something. It's time to move in a different direction.
yeah, i think carr's become the manager/coach of an underachieving team; it's not always his fault, but sometimes, you have to make a change for the sake of change... i still wouldn't be shocked if he's back, but only if they feel plans B-F offer zero upgrade. one thing about the carr situation that worries me: if they do release him, i hope it doesn't reconfigure their offseason strategy. don't draft a QB over a higher-rated player at another position; don't overspend on a veteran QB that might cost you draft picks and/or the chance to sign someone else... cut your losses and recognize QB is merely one of roughly 20 positions on this team that could use an upgrade... you can be competitive for 1-2 years with a trent dilfer/jeff garcia-type while you build the lines, continue finding playmakers, etc.
i think the fan base would throw a hissy fit if they were forced to watch another 8 home games with david behind center. i think they need to cut him or move or do whatever very quickly...before people have to renew season tickets.
I firmly believe that Carr could have become a very solid QB in the NFL had he been put into at least a managable situation. Carr is (and has been) damaged goods. If there was any way for him to recover, he would have showed signs this year. His completion % is high but we all know that's BS and that he can't throw downfield. I've been a Carr defender but it's sad to say that at this point in his career, he's passed the point of no return. Right now, even if you gave him a great O-Line and improved running game (even with Dayne's last 3 games) to go with Andre and Moulds he still wouldn't do anything. He had to potential to be really good but his window has shut and there's no way for him to be what he could have been. Because of what's happened to Carr, I too am leary of drafting a QB early until we fix the O-line. I know none of us wants a repeat of Carr and if we put another young QB with potential behind our OL then we'll be watching David Carr pt. Deux. Carr cannot start next year. The Carr supporters (including myself) who have tried to keep the Carr haters at bay are starting to change their tune. We wanted to give David a year with the new coach but it's not working and I don't think it's going to work. Start Sage, get somebody else in there, do something. Nobody wants to see him at QB next year and if he starts for another full season then the backlash will be bigger than the one for not drafting VY.
