As any Rocket fan that remembers 1994 will tell you:

    "We hate Anthony Mason"

I remember when the national media was embellishing his defense on the Dream during the finals and Dream simply commented " Maybe I should give him my Defensive Player of the Year award " with a smile. We saw his cheap elbows, his hard fouls and his eyes on our pre-teen daughters.

TRUTH: Steve's comments told us he is not a Slam Dunk to Resign in Houston.

WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE: Get the Best damn team Available on the Floor and Make the Damn Playoffs!! As Much as I care for Griffin's playing time (Granted I think He'll be a Star), I don't think we can play with Francis's heart like this with his Airness in Washington Salivating over our Franchise. We need an Extension signed after this season, the earliest possible ala Pierce, Carter, Jamison. We don't want to hold out for him to explore his "options" We want it done....Imagine instead of losing Hakeem this year at 38, we almost lost him at 25. I'm not at all comparing the Glory of Hakeem, but Francis is our savior and I won't be able to take an off season of doubt as I'm sure none you would like to either.

THE POINT: Every team Mase has been on has been successful. He has what we need in toughness, rebounding and the ability to call out players that aren't giving it all cough cough Cato cough...ahem... I would love to see Mase kick Cato's 42 million dollar a$$ all over his Pink Navigator. Mason put up All-Star number's last year, granted in the PF weak east, and is the victim of the Luxury tax. Now don't you think Mase is Pissed. He wants to prove everyone was a fool for passing him up and I think he will have an even better year. There is no doubt the man can play, his passing and rebounding should help guys like Cuttino, Francis and Even Griffin to get a feel for how the game should be played. At 6'7, he leaves much to be desired, but for $3.25 million if we get the exception for a year its a steal. I'm not one to let poor Les's money go to waste not being used.
Our current frontline needs depth. Cato will probably hurt himself tying his shoes and as much as I like Collier's game, he has proven himself a health risk. Marc Jackson? So worried about getting hurt or hurting his stock he didn't play in the Goodwill games.....yeah Marc..that exudes confidence! I think even he knows he was a fluke.

    A Team of

    Center: Cato Collier Grif
    P.Forw: Mase K9 Grif
    S.Forw: Rice Grif Walt T.Mo
    Guard: Cat TMo
    Guard: Steve Mooch

A healthy mix of Youth and Experience that Could make a bang in the Playoffs ala Philly beating Orlando last Year in the Playoffs. Do you remember the excitement it brought. I feel we would be extremely dangereous and that excitement would compell stevie to Max out next summer when Mo (hopefully) returns back to form (as Dallas Rocket, and Ortho Doc stated recovery takes longer but less down the road damage).
I think a pissed off Mase can help us land Franchise for good!

Mase, Rice AND Cato on the same team!!!

All-NBA HEADCASE Team, that's for sure.

Mase can rape little girls, Rice's wife can whine about it and Cato can yell at her for waking him from his beauty sleep.

No question that Mason has to be signed. I've also heard that Quinton Dailey's in great shape after all these years. He must be signed as well.

Then Griffin can punch out the team, and Francis can complain about moving closer to home, while Mobley can whine about being the man.

Colson can continue to go right, Moochie will eventually grow his fro big enough to hide Fegan in it, Morris will play follow the leader, Walt will miss open jumpers, Langhi will shoot air balls, and K9 will start biting people. Collier will piss people (ZRB?) off for being on the team.

    Did I miss anyone?

Yes you did NIKE, you forgot about Mo being "soft" and having a hard time playing through broken fingers and blown Achilles tendons! And Rudy "On the Rocks" Tomjanovich! Shame on you! ;)

Skipping over the 7 ridiculous replies to a brilliant post, I'd like to say that this is a great idea. The Rockets with Mason, would be a better team than the Rockets with Mo. Go for it!

What has this world come to?

But I must say that I agree. But there is a tough question.

I doubt Mase wants to sign a 1-yr deal. So would all the Pro-Mase people still be happy if he signed for a 3-yr deal? That creates problems long term.

There's a reason why ZRB won the most improved poster on the BBS. I just don't think that he really liked to share this stuff with us. BTW - ZRB: GarageMan is back..he posted on KidRock's latest thread. I tried paging you, but it must not have worked.

ZRB the voice of reason! The same guy who said the season was over, and that we needed to keep fans by winning! Yeah right! Just messing with ya! ;) We definitely need to get Mason. He is a solid rebounder, scorer, defender, ball-handler for a big man, and just just as tough as nails. He's a poor man's Charles Barkley, and I'll take that any day of the week.

With the current situation this year, we can't offer much to Mase, so I think he would prefer a one year deal anyway. Thats why I see this as a steal, you get an all-star that wants to prove himself CHEAP.

No doubt about it, Mase had one of his best years and deserves a lot more than 3 1/4 mil, but he might take it! I'm just saying we need try and let our previous bias' against the guy not cloud our hopes for our team.
