Arenas, Boozer Named NBA Players of the Week
The Washington Wizards’ Gilbert Arenas and the Utah Jazz’ Carlos Boozer today were named the Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for games played Monday, Dec. 11 through Sunday, Dec. 17.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

Let's compare Yao vs. Boozer for the week:

    Boozer: 22.75 points per game, 12 rebs, 2.75 assists, 0.75 blocks, 1.5 steals, 52.05% FG, 71.4% FT, 2.5 turnovers

    Yao: 32.75 points per game, 12 rebs, 3.25 assists, 3.25 blocks, 0 steals, 49.04% FG, 90.63% FT, 4 turnovers

It is obvious that Yao put up better numbers than Boozer.

If the NBA wants to punish Yao for the Rocket's record then I think that is unfair. The award is for player fo the week and not team of the week.

Anyways let's hope Yao can get player of the month honors because the more of those he racks up the greater his chances of getting MVP will be in my opinion.

People need to stop pretending like winning doesn't play a role. It always has, it always will.

May not be fair, but I wouldn't have put my money on Yao even if one of those games was a 50 pt, 30 rebound performance. If they still went 1-3, no chance...

To be honest, it actually probably should have been Kobe.

This would be a fair assessment. Even though he was a douche bag to Arenas after last night's game. For that reason I'm glad he didn't get it.

Players of the week are determined by their teams record in that particular week. it has nothing to do with stats. they take the teams that went 4-0 or 3-1, and they look for the guy with the best stats from that particular team, and that's how they determine it.

when Yao won player of the week, I think we went 4-0.

so relax, it has nothing to do with the NBA being biased against Ming.

rox lost three games without t-mac, that's probably why, although Yao has been outstanding and 2 out of 3 losses we have are very close. sometimes, it is just not very fair.

but if Yao could continue to dominate like this, and Rox can have a > .500 record for december, Yao should be named as the player of the month again since t-mac is out for most games.

Look we got a good start on this week (win over Clippers) with a monster game by Yao... trailblazers should be cake even without tmac...and if we manage to win in SA over the spurs or put up a solid effort with Yao keep these numbers up then this week is Yao's for the taking...

Yao would have won it again if the Rockets did not lose those game. Winning plays a huge role in these awards because basketball is a team sport and winning is what its all about.

Good point. Would you rather meet Dan Marino or Brett Farve? I'd pick Brett Farve every time because he won it all, but Marino had better numbers.

Ummm...you can't win individual honors in a week where your team lost three out of four (or was it two out of three?).

Leading your team to a winning record is pretty much a prerequisite to winning POW/POM/MVP honors.

Yeah, Kobe showing a little jealousy here. Funny how the criticisms Kobe levelled at Arenas more typically apply to Kobe himself. I mean come on, Kobe, taking difficult shots? Scoring a lot of points on free throws?

"Hello, pot. Kettle calling. Take a look in the mirror, buddy."

I don't Yao would care about this player of the week title.
He would rather give up this kind of title for the winning of the games.

Winning or not winning Conference Player of the Week award is not a big deal for Yao because he has won it couple of times already. Besides, he could win back-to-back Conference Player of the Month award, not that it matters.

I am sure Yao doesn't care them. He's all about helping his team win games. Go Yao! Go Rockets!!!
