Ok just some food for thought. The rookie teams will be selected in about a month.. Just thought we would bring up some discussion on which of the Rockets players might make it.

Luther Head- He was on the rookie team last year and since he is the rockets 6th man and since the rockets are one of the premiere teams in the league i see no reason why he wouldnt start. Also lets just say the boy can shoot. He has been putting great numbers since tmac has been out

JL3- I believe he would be eligble for the Sophmore team since he did play last year. I think if the kid was on a different team that wasnt as deep as the rockets that he might have a chance for the sophmore team. He's one of the quickest guys in the league and is a good shooter for being a pg. I think think once snyder, and tmac are healthy he needs playing time so send him to austin. Also Sura GET HEALTHY

Chuck Hayes- Well in my opinion hes a shoo in as well. Lenovo stats alone make him a super efficent player. He is as everyone says a rebounding machine. Being a starting PF for a team such as the rockets says alot about a sophmore player. Hes only a couple of months into the game and has snagged almost as many rebounds as he did last year. (Well Discuss This One)

V-Span- I don really think he'll make the rookie squad. There is alota taleneted rookies and i dont think we have seen the real V-Span yet. He's just starting to fit in on this team. Next Year SOPHMORE SQUAD QUOTE ME.

Novak-not gonna make it he hasnt seen enough playing time. But should the boy be in the 3 pt. contest hell yeah...

In my opinion if we get Yao and T-mac starting on the allstar game and Chuck and Luther on the Sophmore team.. Plus Novak woopin some a** in the 3pt. contest it will be a great weekend in Las Vegas for Rockets fans..

Hopefully Luther and Chuck get selected.

I really also hope Novak opts in for the 3 point shooting contest. I would LOVE to see that so much. We could see if he's for real.

We need to start a campaign to get Novak in the contest, someone contact him ASAP!

WTF?? I like Lu and all, but no way he should start over Deron Williams and Chris Paul. Or Raymond Felton, for that matter.

novak has no chance for the 3pt contest he doesn't have enough attempts, it's only for the top 3 pt shooters...Head should get an invite....

on the rookie team, there is only 8 that are choosing for both sides, so only Head will make the team from ours...

If Luther Head isn't on the Soph team, he ought to demand a recount. If he's not on that team, the fix is in.

I'm not as big a Hayes fan as the rest of this board. Definitely don't consider him a starter over Hakim Warrick who plays 58% of the PF minutes for MEM.

A major variable for Hayes' selection could be the the health of some other Soph's along with how the selectors want to "gray" the area between positions...it's not inconceivable for both Ike Diogu and Andrew Bynum to be considered PF's for this type of contest. Especially Diogu (if healthy) in an uptempo game.

Chuck and Luther are locks to make it.

Novak won't get the 3 pt shooting. His 3 pt pct is bad right now even though he doesn't play.

Looks like Luther will do double duty. I think he still leads the NBA in 3's.

Deron & CP have a shot at being selected for the (regular) All-Star team.

In fact, I'd almost say both are locks... except that Kobe/TMac will be voted in, leaving Nash/CP/Deron all as backups. would be tough to take 3 points on the bench...when you still need have 2 guards out there like Ray Allen, Kevin Martin (won't make it), maybe J-Rich (won't make it).

Hmm, I guess it is doable then leaving out Martin and Richardson in the backcourt.

edit: on 2nd thought, that'd leave 3 spots for reserve forwards...they'll probably leave one off out of deron/cp/nash/r. allen

anyone remember the game last year? people were throwing lobs to luther all over the place and he couldn't convert any of them. it did show he has hops though, he just can't really use those hops to make thunderous dunks.

Didn't Novak lose to a girl in the college 3 point contest?

They should let him compete so the men can reclaim the crown from Nowitzki and the college chick.

I wonder if head and novak could both be in the 3pt contest. (Might as well put bullard in there)

Here's who I think will take the sophomore Forward spots:

    Granger
    Frye
    Bogut
    Villaneuva
May (he's having a great time)
Warrick (stepped up with Gasol out, but have to see if it continues)

I daresay that half of fans around the league have never heard of Chuck Hayes, and the fact that all he does is rebound and the intangibles (rebounding is something everybody in the above list does), Hayes will not make the sophomore team. Luther has a good chance though, he's improved from last year.
