I'm convinced the only reason Zeke Thomas still has that coaching job is that the owner wants to embarrass him and deflect the fans' wrath to Thomas.

thanks for all of your strawman responses, but the fact is it was a grab and not a clothesline. and the point is smith was jumping so if it was an actual clothesline as you claim it would have been worse. and I never said he wasn't brought down by Collins to the floor, he was pulled down, big difference.

i feel bad about melo, he will be no longer qualified for scoring champion, won't he? If melo got suspended for 15 games, M Collins should get suspended for more than 20 games ... just my thought

It probably is unless you're operating under the impression that he telepathically controlled Scott Layden.

Layden sent Camby and a first round pick away for McDyess, signed up Houston to a crushingly huge deal, sent away sprewell for Van Horn, signed up Eisley & Shandon Anderson to big deals, and did nothing in the draft except Frederic Weis - he basically wrecked the team, which Thomas compounded.

You're right, it wasn't a clothesline. Collins grabbed Smith by the neck and threw him to the ground. That's a LOT better...

you call that "pulled" down? I guess your definition of "pull" is slightly different from mine. The fact that Smith didn't get hurt doesn't excuse bush league play like that. Collins is lucky he only received 10 games for that.

I guess I need to go back and check the tape. Shouldn't Nate get the most for square off and goin' all Rock 'em Sock 'em and shiit? He should've got more than Melo no? Maybe? maybe no.

the melo shot could have done big damage, ala kermit washington. I think that's the reasoning. running up and taking a swing is really dangerous.

Has Nate Robinson (and the Knicks organization for that matter) publicly commented on the suspensions and fines? I know that Melo released a statement earlier, but I haven't heard anything out of the Knicks.

It would be interesting to say the least after the way Nate was making it sound like a walk in the park and as if it was no big deal (the whole we were just protecting our honor/home court blah blah blah).

Wonder if the Knicks will put a gag order on Nate to stop him from further embarassing himself and the organization.

This is great news not only because we play Denver in game 13 or Carmello's 15 game suspension, but also because this will widen the gap between us in the 6th seed and Denver in the 7th seed.

From the replays I've seen...Nate Robinson is a downright punk.

None of this happens without him. Smith and Collins get tangled, maybe Collins foul was too hard (worthy of a flagrant 2, but I don't think much more than that + maybe an ejection and max a one game suspension), but then Collins and Smith seemed to just be blowing off steam and jawing at each other until little Nate comes in and starts being a little punk. If Robinson doesn't do that, this is like any other hard foul + a tech type deal. Melo shoves Nate away a couple times, then Nate jumps at Smith who does what any 6-6 guy would do to a 5-9 squirt - throw him 10 feet away. Smith has to get suspended for his part, but I think Robinson deserves far worse.

Melo was just stupid for his part, and I can't blame Jeffries for being furious after a cheap shot like that.

Isiah lost a lot of respect, imo. It's one thing to be a crappy coach, in the end people will forget about that. But you don't threaten, or as he calls it "teach" another team's player about sportsmanship - especially when guys on your team like Nate Robinson have none.

Yes, he told the press that was him just being "Spontaneous Nate"

    Something's not right with him.

here's what George Karl had to say:

    http://video.nbcsports.com/player/?id=51534

I commend Karl for going out and publicly calling out Isiah. dude has perfect right to do that since Mr. Stern and the NBA didn't do anything for him.

Are teams hit by multiple suspensions allowed to "rent" players from, say, NBDL? Otherwise how are they able to sustain multiple fouling-out situations when the game is still in play? What's the league rule on this? I guess the more general question could be, is it OK to have fewer than 5 players on the court from a team in a basketball game? Has it ever happened in NBA?

If the team fouls out enough players that they couldn't field a team of five, the final player to foul out is allowed to stay on the court - but every foul against him is assessed like a technical foul(free throws and the ball).

The suspensions were harsh on Melo, he's getting punished for being the highest profile player involved and getting involved in the biggest fight since the Detroit fiasco. Yeah, he should get punished for throwing the punch, but not more than Nate Robinson or Isiah Thomas.
