"Yes, the No. 1 pick in the 2002 draft has yet to win a postseason series. And yes, technically he can't make any more than he already does, since his contract is maxed out through the 2010-11 season. Still, he's a relative bargain considering 32 players make more than the league's premier center. Yao is giving Houston about 26 points (on 53 percent shooting), nine rebounds and two blocks a game."

relative to other scrub centres in the league, yes.

relative to other superstars in the league, no.

Yao and Lebron are probably the biggest marketing machines in the league though, so apart from their A-games, they bring a lot more to the table for their franchises than other players.

Blame it on the CBA, he's getting paid the maxium salary allowed. All star players on rookie contract are severly underpaid (see last year's Lebron, Carmelo, and Wade's salaries) Also, how does that list sort the rankings?

    29. Amare Stoudemire Phoenix Suns $12,455,000
    30. Pau Gasol Memphis Grizzlies $12,364,000
    30. Andrei Kirilenko Utah Jazz $12,364,000
    32. Lamar Odom Los Angeles Lakers $12,348,596
    33. Yao Ming Houston Rockets $12,455,000

He's getting paid the same as Amare, but ranked lower than Pau, Andrei and Lamar?

This tread is meaningless. Yao already gets the max contract. Even Rockets want to pay him more, they are not allowed to do it. End of story.

yes, Yao is under-paid, NOT only just because what he has done on the basketball court, but also his popularity. How many fans does he has? How votes does he has? and how much money he has brought to Rockets ... Shane and chuck got their shoe contracts purely because they are the teammates of Yao.

So I am really confused. What the whole point here? Do you want Rockets to raise his contract or what? Even if Rockets want to give him more moeny, they are NOT ALLOWED to do that. Yes, Yao has the popularity and market, that's why he's got so many commercial endorsements. But salary wise, Rockets already give him the max that the league allows. Even if Yao is traded to another team, they couldn't give him more either.
