Meh... Beatles rookie. That's actually a very odd remixed medley of Within You/Without You and Tomorrow Never Knows. BTW, here is my addition: <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/6PIVmJi5ASU"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/6PIVmJi5ASU" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>
LOL, oh young lad, I am (at least) twice your age. That video was just released today by the Beatles (Paul and Ringo, also Olivia and Yoko) it is from their new album "Love"
I was actually kind of being silly, but that video above is not Tomorrow Never Knows, (more than 1/2 of the vocal material is from Within You/Without You) and that: ... is not The Beatles no matter what you or anybody else says. If you played the second half of that song to either John Lennon or George Harrison before they passed away what song you think they would say it was? Give me the original individually tracked recordings from the studio recordings and an hour with Acid and I can do the same thing, but it won't be a Beatles song. BTW, if you were really twice my age you would be regaling all of us with your exploits during WWII.
Do you not know of the new Beatles Album? All remasterd by George Martin and his son? Go here to find out ALL about it: http://www.beatles.com/
I don't consider 'Real Love' and 'Free as a Bird' to be 'Beatles Songs'. I don't think these are either. There are the original recordings, and if those aren't good enough for you then you can get one of 35,000,000 bootleg recordings. These are a sales stunt as far as I can tell. 'One' (a marketing stunt in itself) was a big moneymaker so they decided to go a step further. How can you completely remix two songs into one when the people who wrote and sung those songs are dead? Why are the original recordings suddenly not good enough any more? Perhaps we just have different criteria for judging what should really count as a Beatles record. It is not my intent to start a 'Beatles fight' so I apologize for being argumentative. Needless to say I will not be buying this 'new' album.
Can't help you there. I think the new stuff is AWESOME. It's amazing how George singing "Within You and Without You" fits PERFECTLY with John's "Tomorrow Never Knows". This was not only done for the Cirque Du Soleil, but also for young kids who have never heard of the Beatles. You should spend less time being upset about it and "Relax and Float Downstream" , enjoy it.
It is strange mashing up two or more Beatle songs to make one "new" one. I don't really like it that much. It is cool to see some video footage of the Beatles though. Some of the generic images are a little annoying, but anytime I can see more footage of the beatles themselves I like it.
With all due respect, I seriously doubt you, the studio recordings of the Beatles and an hour with Acid could come even remotely close to doing what George Martin and his son, Giles, did with Love. I've heard quite a few mashups of the Beatles stuff and they are all interesting and, no, they aren't the Beatles. But, unlike those mashups, these were taken from the original tracks and overseen by the guy who made the Beatles sound the way they did. I love the original recordings and I'll take them every day and twice on Sunday's over any mashup, George Martin or otherwise, but give the guy a little more credit than that. He's a living freaking legend. Assuming you could do what he does with an hour in Acid is pretty crazy even if it is an exaggeration.
Hey Bob-o! Thanks for posting these! And for those interested, George and Giles talk about the project! <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/rcrvakvS_gk"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/rcrvakvS_gk" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>
It was an extreme exageration. I do think, however that there are many other people out there who could have done just as good of a job. I'm not sure if anybody cares but I highly recomed reading the Allan W. Pollack's 'Notes on' Series while listening to Beatles songs. Mr. Pollack is a musicologist who over the course of 10 years wrote a musicological analysis of every Beatles song. Some of the early songs and covers are just a paragraph, but there is some great knowledge and if you've ever played a musical instrument it will be very insightful.
I won't be buying 'Love', I have too many thousands of discs to buy already, though I think the concept is quite cool. Go Home Productions has done some wonderful Beatle-related mashups. A personal favorite includes Beach Boys' "I Wasn't Made For These Times" and Macca's "Back Seat of My Car." Anyone denigrating the work of mashup artists need a dose of perspective: the web has changed everything. Put something together, and put it online. As crazy as Yoko/Macca's lawyers can get ... if it's good, it will gain an audience.
