Somebody please answer this, I would love to hear a official answer this, what's Yao supposed to do when he defends? He makes body contact and he gets a foul, he just stands there with his hands up and gets a foul, he may NOT EVEN be around the guy and looking the opposite direction and STILL get fouled, so PLEASE NBA and ur analysis ppl, ur officials, or anybody...TELL ME WHAT THE **** IS YAO SUPPOSED TO DO ON DEFENSE?
He should jump up straight in the air and go for the block. He has to think faster and be faster when a player like Kobe is driving towards him.
He could do like one defender did to Tmac last year and move forward into a driving Kobe with his forearm up so it smacks Kobe across the face and breaks his nose. Just a thought. Oh yeah, there was no flagrant foul call on the Tamc hit was there?
that's a foul automatically. yao did that early in his nba career and was called every single time. then he changed a bit, standing with arms extended straight up. and guess what, he still get called. but otoh, when the opponents do that to him, no call!
Nothing he can do. It's tough to move your feet when you're 330 pounds and ran a marathon. When he becomes slow, take him out of the game and put in the Elbow. Problem solved
He should know whether he's in the circle or not. He should almost forget about trying to draw charging fouls and just try to block or alter shots. BTW, I'm assuming you are talking about when he challenges a player driving to the basket. When it's his man, all Yao needs to do is put the arms straight up and never jump unless his man is shooting a fadeaway.
Learn Deke's deadly elbow blade technique, and throw some bows! This will make opponents think twice before coming into the lane.
I say he just plows over the defender 6 times for six offensive fouls in 10 minutes. Keep doing it until the refs stop calling it. It worked for Shaq.
Solid's theory on fouls: get your money's worth. If they are going to call every ticky-tacky little contact, introduce your opponent to the cheap seats. If Yao was "real" aggressive like Shaq or even Deke, they would back off. You have a right to move your arms, no? Swing to your right, swing to your left, swing all around, put them on the ground. It's in the game. On defense, get and hold a position and then reset as necessary. Unfortunately, Yao can't do that very quickly. They can mug him, but he can't breath on them. Yao should be given the right to hold his position.
LAY DOWN SOME HURT YAO GET SOME RESPECT LAY DOWN SOME HURT LAY DOWN SOME HURT LAY DOWN SOME HURT LAY DOWN SOME HURT LAY DOWN SOME HURT LAY DOWN SOME HURT LAY DOWN SOME HURT LAY DOWN SOME HURT
If biased officiating persists, Yao shall threaten David Stern that he will leave the NBA for the Euroleague.
Other than getting a hefty fine handed on a plate to him, what can he do ?? As he said, everybody can do something onto his body when he is attacking the rim (pushing, butting, shoveling, hitting, slapping, scraping, elbowing, tripping, pulling the chair.........you name it), he can't even breathe on them.
They definitely need to look more into what goes for interior defense, like they did for perimeter D. Sometimes they let muggings go the whole game and sometimes during different times in a game they get ticky tack like they do on perimeter calls. Another guy to help out like Chuck Hayes with size, and keeping Yao from shuffling around chasing people would help. Then he could just go for blocks when players get close to the rim and go at it with some AUTHORITY. And Yao should keep on complaining
