I know, a loss is a loss, and it sucks, yada yada yada. But if Yao keeps playing the way he is, he will win the MVP.

Seriously, I know there's a lot of griping and complaining about McGrady not playing, but can you imagine this team without Yao? He's definitely the most valuable player in the league at this point.

So, what I wanted to do, especially now that Yao has busted off two amazing games in a row and will more than likely continue to do so is this: I think we need a thread to allow pessimists to come in and read what all the bandwagoner analysts have been/will be writing about Yao and how he is the MVP of the league.

As for my input: I believe that Yao is the MVP of the league. I also think that many national writers will start lobbying for it to, as Yao starts taking 30 shots a game, and his stats begin to compare to the Shaquilles, Hakeems, and other great recent centers of the past. I don't really blame any of these analysts either - afterall, they've been calling for Yao to shoot 30 times a game since he was a rookie.

In my honest and humble opinion, if Yao were to average 30 to 35 shots a game, he would be the MVP year in and year out. I think he's average about 35 points and 13 rebounds a game playing like this. Getting him this involved simply gives him confidence, and.....well, gets him more involved (specifically in the rebounding department).

    Man, he's becoming a true monster. :D

First off, let me say that I love Yao and I think he's a real superstar. He brings his all day in and day out and is one of the hardest workers I've ever seen.
However, he won't win MVP as long as his team loses, despite his monster numbers. True MVPs lead their teams to the top of their division. Without T-Mac, the Rox will continue to struggle. If Yao can't carry the Rockets to wins, then MVP is out of the question as no one will give him respect.

Definitely we need to win more to put Yao on the candidate list.

However, I would say Yao is the most dominate player of the league at this point. Yes, I truely believe that.

if we don't get to the second round, yao has no shot. just the usual rule of thumb.

    Kobe is the MVP.

    Rox's record without T-Mac: 9 - 33. T-Mac is at least the co-MVP of this Rox team.

But Yao is soo good right now. I think he is almost on par with Tim Duncan.

    This is very true.

I do, though, believe that the wins will come. Be it with or without McGrady, we'll start winning once we (as in Van Gundy mostly) figure out how to play without McGrady. I think that once Van Gundy can get his McGrady-less rotation set, we will start winning. We simply get tired in the fourth quarter. Every game, we're that close to winning, and then we're beat by a run in the fourth. We just have a few things to get sorted out.

As far as a true MVP leading their team to the top of the division - Yao is leading this team right now arguably more than anyone in the NBA. His last two games have been monstrous. It's not his fault we haven't won them, and even if he is a superstar, he can't win every game for his team.

Yao is the most dominant in the first half. Second half, and fourth quarter in particular, I'm not so sure.

Agree. The problem with Yao, is despite all other variables, a true MVP has to be able to spearhead his team to victory. As of now, either fatigue or the opposing teams defense is able to take him out. He needs to figure out how to combat the other teams defense (Bec obviously JVG can't so Yao needs to do it on his own), or JVG needs to better spread his minutes. Tonight I'm not counting bec its a back to back and no big man can play that many minutes effectively. But crap, why does he keep shooting fadeaways?? If he would take it to the hole strong, or lean into his defender on shots when its late, he could get a foul call or something atleast. IN anycase, he played awesome for the first 5 quarters, but in the end we losts, Kobe's team won. I'm sure that someday, maybe even this season, Yao will be MVP, but not at this moment.

I actually think Yao's fadeaways are a good option for him when he's tired. It's an easy shot for him, and he doesn't have to expend a lot of energy taking it. And it's high percentage for him. That's the shot he was relying on against the Wizards.

When he's tired and he tries to score going to the basket, he seems to struggle a lot more finishing. He doesn't get the lift he needs, and defenders are able to strip him or block his shot a lot.

actually, the voting is done late in the first round of the playoffs.

usually, voters don't choose a guy who they JUST watched get eliminated by another MVP candidate.

to quote winston wolf of pulp fiction, "let's not start sucking each other d*cks just yet."

yao is neither at the tops in the league statistically nor is his team at the top of the standings. he's not the mvp. sorry, guys.

Yao will never win MVP if the team can't win a game without McGrady.

Yes Yao is the best player in the league heads up.

HOWEVER, the MVP has ceased to mean you are the best player in league, it has turned into some politically correct pussified does he make the players around him feel warm and fuzzy inside bs.

Kobe is NOT the MVP, as much as the butt kissing league front office would like for him to be. If you look at that rapist the wrong way they call foul.

I would rather see Boozer get it or Steve Nash than to have to watch that little punk stick his long tongue out hoisting the trophey like he deserved it.

 Alright, I am chillin......but dang I cant stand that little jerk!
