I think he meant to say "do not forget T-MAC was the scoring champion in 2 seasons (sessions)" Tip my hat to you, dandorotik. you and some other posters in this thread are the reasons I want to stick to this board, no matter Rox are winning or losing. Go Rockets!
Wow, I'm just astounded at the level of support you guys have for someone that is struggling in english. It's very humbling to see. Keep it up! Keep posting and improving your english Matthaus. We're all behind you 110%
is this Zboy messing around on another moniker? from what i can gather, i agree with all of the points made. bonzi deserves some more minutes so he can get himself into game shape. we shouldn't forget that he is a talented player and it would be wise for this team to try its best to make this pairing work. and he can't do any worse than howard because howard is old! lol (i wonder what this guy thinks of deke if he thinks howard sucks due to his age)
I am not picking on you or anything, blazer_ben, but there is some irony here. Seriously though, Matthaus, you're doing well, I think everyone can respect the fact that you're making a serious effort to improve your English just so you're able to better communicate with your fellow Rockets fans; I find that quite inspirational and praiseworthy. Keep it up, buddy...
Wow Matthaus, that is some serious progress given that you wrote it alll by yourself, keep up the good work. PS: I love the title of this thread.
I love to see Bonzi on the court playing. But playing spot up around the perimeter is not Bonzi's game - cutting and posting up are. Just hope JVG doesnt need another season to find out Bonzi's game.
His minutes went up, which is good. Anyone have any notes? Fact of the matter is, Bonzi could save our season. If T-Mac is going to be out for extended periods, it's becoming clear that this team will need all of Kyrk Snyder, Bonzi Wells, and Vassilis Spanoulis contributing. Those 3 need to punish teams inside, go to the rim, post up, play tough defense. If Bonzi can shake off most of the rust during this roadtrip, it could mean a couple of wins without T-Mac, which would be excellent. This team needs to believe that it can win without T-Mac. For that to happen, it needs to win without T-Mac. For that to happen, another swingman needs to step up. When that happens, the team will be confident without T-Mac. When T-Mac comes back, the team will be even better. PLUS, T-Mac will be less injury-prone when he realizes "oh my God, they don't give a **** if I'm out". It's time to stop babying these guys. Make sure this team is on FIRE for the last 20 games.
How did Bonzi play today? He probably has only played 40 minutes total for Rox this season. It seems that he hesitated to shoot the ball in the previous games which he played(I'm not sure about Warrior's game). Maybe he was trying to show that he can play team basketball and fit Van Gundy's system. But he really needs to attack the rim just like what he did in the last season's playoff, especially when T-mac is off. Although Bonzi has attitude problem, his ability is well proved. If our coach decides to use him, his job is to attack the rim from the weak side when Yao gets doubled or tripled, grap a bunch a rebounds, and play touch D. The best way for him to get used to our system is to attack the rim!!~~~
Well I think Bonzi didnt get the opportunity to play his game... He was doign spot up shooting which isn't his thing. His thing is to DRIVE to the basket and shoot. BUt then again when you watch you can see he doesn't have his game legs yet - he didnt have much spring to his jump. But I think that will come with time. He was pretty aggressive on defense - I thought he did alright but he will do better as he gets to play more. Thats the key thing - "PLAY MORE!" I want to see the Bonzi of the old driving in to the basket.
Bonzi looked much better out there last night. Still seemed to have some trouble on rotations and stuff, but he was hustling the entire time he was on the court and seemed to be more comfortable than last game. Hopefully, his progress will move quickly!
At this point, he needs minutes. The Warriors isolated on him a couple times and tried to go one on one with Pietrus who is taller and obviously in much better shape. Bonzi shut him down and forced tough shots. Bonzi is a very, very good post defender. He's got the quick feet and he's got the size needed. He can get the position, beat post up players to the spot, and when they hit him, they bounce off. As far as his team defense, I think he looked a little lost especially in help and switch scenarios. Overall his play was sloppy, missing a fast break layup, stepping into the lane on free throws, and knocking the ball off the basket support for a technical along with reaching fouls. If he was in shape, he would be a rebounding force, you can see him just kinda drift to the bucket when the shot goes up and he finds space. If he gets minutes and gets in game shape, our rebounding differential should increase significantly. He is an instinctive rebounder and ball hawk, similar to Chuckie but not as dedicated. Still looks lost in the offensive sets if he isn't posting up, which I don't understand why we would have him on the floor if we aren't going to let him post up from that left high block. That's where he likes it and wants it and where he is most effective. At one point in the game, JVG was using Battier to post up and Bonzi was playing strong side with him??? Couldn't quite figure that one out. Especially when Battier is outsized going against a PF or C and is the much better range shooter. Should have had Bonzi on the post up and Shane in the corner. But you can tell Bonzi does not know the offense well and struggled a bit with where he was supposed to be on the floor. Bonzi did have one drive that was just a sampling of what he can do. He received the ball in his sweet spot (left high block) turned and used his quickness and strength to go right past the defender to the hole. He got fouled on the shot attempt with no call but it cleared out the rim for Juwan to get a put back and 1. And he did have a nice little 14 foot jumper in the paint. He received the ball in traffic. They immediately played him for the dribble drive and he just put the ball up, swish. He did take some more outside jumpers and didn't hit them. His shot mechanics don't look too bad to me. Will have to watch him some more to pick up deficiencies because his shot doesn't go down from distance most of the time. This is Bonzi's chance. He'll either improve or disappear from here. And if he improves he will wind up being a huge piece for us. I think he will be better served playing without one of either Yao or Tracy though. I think the 3 of them on the floor together will clog things up. We could really use him to give us a post presence when Yao is out or when Yao needs a blow on a possession or two when he has been having to run a lot. If Yao could rest on the offensive end for a couple trips, I think it would help increase his stamina. With Bonzi, Yao could get that rest simply by staying on right low block while Bonzi works the left high block. They go to Bonzi and he cuts loose with that little dribble drive, Yao's defender leaves to help, and Yao standing at the rim for the throw down. Keeps Yao on the court and takes away some of the pressure that wears him down so much while still making us highly effective offensively. We really need Bonzi to get it together or we need to trade for a similar type established scorer that can get his own in a mismatch with the defender. I prefer actually a player like Bonzi with the back to the basket game as opposed to just a perimeter gunner/shooter. Luther is the rifle out there. We would be better if Bonzi got his act going and provided us with another interior option.
jopatmc, you summed it up so well that left the rest of us nothing to say Wells definitely could provide big help for us down the road. If I were JVG I'd give him at least 20 min for the Lakers game. Our winning chance is low for this game. B2B, on the road, T-Mac out. We might as well make the best out of it by playing Wells. What worse can it be?
for the most part, if you make a serious effort to be a good member of this community, you will get the support. It is in our best interests for the OP(matthaus) to improve his communciation skills so we can interact with maximum efficiency. around here, you reap what you sow, if you come in and act the fool, you get treated as a fool...you come in and try to make good posts....you get treated as a good poster....no matter how good your english.
Ummm, to be honest, I rather read the broken english style he had in his previous post. So much more entertaining. I'm not poking fun at the guy. His previous post was poetic-like in the way that you sort of had to read the entire thing and actually try to understand what he's saying. These days, people reply back, whether agreeing, disagreeing, b****ing, whining, crying, etc., without reading the ENTIRE post. Matthaus, go back to using the auto translator!
