They (Texans) should have been going for the win - the kill stroke so to speak. When they started that last series, I said aloud that they get the TD, they win. THIS WAS A WINNABLE GAME! This was Carr's big (and last) chance to shut up and stick it in the faces of all of those folks wearing no 10 Titans jerseys. Instead, Carr came out and was the Dude, Where's My Car? Carr. They didn't get the TD because they didn't believe that they could and nobody in that stadium, including the head coach, believed that Carr could lead them to down and get that TD. And that's the difference between Carr and that other guy - nobody believes in Carr's ability to lead this team to a win when the game is on the line.
OK, I just listened to the Monday morning interview on 610. Go to the 610 website, pull up the podcast section, click on "David Carr Monday 12/11/06" and at the 1:35 mark when asked about the decision to take a knee, Carr says "obviously he (Kubiak) doesn't care about my opinion". The plot thickens. EDIT: here's the link http://www.sportsradio610.com/Article.asp?id=264080
I saw a clip on the news after the loss and Carr was wearing a Dodger Cap. I hope we ship his california ass out of Texas! This guy does not have what it takes to take the team to the top. I thought he was good enough and tried to justify the mario pic, but damn, i give up. I still think the draft was good and i believe in this coaching staff, but Carr has to go. I am still a Texans fan and i hope we get rid of this mistake soon!
carr threw on four of the five plays, including 3rd and 8 when the team's best receiver ran a 4-yard route and gained 6.
whatever you think of carr personally... there's no denying he's taken A LOT of physical punishment here, and he never complained about it, never pointed fingers, never pouted or cried or demanded the team do anything about it... he's taken it like a man and was a good soldier. he did his radio show every week, maintianed a pretty decent attitude... so i hope if the team does go in another direction, they send him someplacee where he has a legitimate chance to thrive. i would THINK the jets, dolphins, jags, bears (maybe) & vikings, among the "not terrible teams," would all consider carr an upgrade over their current starter. if he could fetch us a day 1 pick, i think that'd be the right thing to do.... we don't owe him that, of course, but....
I guess we all knew this, but assuming its correct, then yeah, Carr is done...Could be a bad divorce...
Right decision on a team struggling to make the playoffs, or jockying for playoff positioning...sure. Right decision for this Texans team...absolutely not. If it was Kubiak's decision, it was a bad one. If it was Carr's decision, it was a bad one. I mean, hindsight IS 20/20 - they lost the game, obviously they should have gone for the win one the last possesion. Regardless, though, as the Texans continue to play not to lose, they continue to do so...it's not that hard to figure out. The biggest hit to our season so far, unfortunately, was Sage going out with a broken thumb. We have the perfect opportunity to see the last few games if Sage could be a serviceable quarterback (basically do what Carr has done, but with fewer mistakes - fumbles, etc. - and more potential leadership) for next year. The only positive thing I can say about Carr at this point is that in the only 30 minutes of his NFL career where he was absolutely and completely in charge of running the offense and play-calling, he did an amazingly good job. Unfortunately, no coach in the league will let any quarterback do that (maybe excluding Peyton...?), and David can't seem to play competently when other people are makign the calls.
The reason they did not try to gain the yards needed to get into field goal range at the end of the game is the same reason David Carr looks like an ineffective quaterback. The offensive line is mostly offensive to the Texans. What do you think the odds of a saftey were, if David dropped back into the end zone three times. 50%? 70%? 90%?. Coach Kubes and David both made the right decision, and dam right it was the right decision. David Carr will be the quarterback to lead the Texans to great success if he can survive the beating, and if the Texans put together a good offensive line. Definition of a good offensive line 1) Blockers produce a consistent running game. 2) Blockers give David time for a seven step drop, and the receivers time to get down the field. David Carr is a hero. He takes physical and emotional beating week after week and keeps coming back for more. He does not rip the coaching staff for providing him with the worst offensive line in pro football, AGAIN. He does not rip the offensive lineman for not being able to do their job, and for making him look foolish. The frustration must be enourmous. David Carr is a hero.
very interesting take.... I will try and finish out the season with this very attitude and put it all in the front offices hands and cheer on our QB next year whoever it is.
Houston had the ball on the 7 yard line, one sack (either a safety or fumble)and the game is over right there in all likelihood, and it matters not who is taking the snaps. Even in the event that they did not give up a sack there, had they turned it over on an INT or punted the ball, Tennessee did have 1 timeout left. The Texans have a finesse/hangtime punter (can't kick the ball for distance) who has been shanking balls of late, combined with the Titans dangerous return man, and a kicker that can make 60 yard FG's - Kubiak made the right call, the safe call. And remember Kubiak went for the kill shot against Buffalo with a passing play that stopped the clock, instead of the smart play by running the ball and the clock, and the Texans gave the Bills the opportunity the needed to come back and win that game. He apparently learned his lesson there, too bad they lost that coinflip or AJ did not do more on that 3rd down to extend the drive where they tied it with a FG. A TD of course wins it.
they actually had two, iirc - they used their first and only on that horrible decision to challenge johnson's catch.
Emotionally, right after the games, especially the Raider game, I tend to dispise David; the short passes, the paniced look, the lack of points, etc etc. However, I do think that given a professional NFL line, David can do well.
I am with you, ^ guy above, but your nickname gives me the creeps... You've been preaching gospel here. I agree with most of your thoughts, but I doubt he would have been dubbed a hero. No way he'd satisfy the many "fans." "Oh, but it was the lowly TITANS, for X'sSake..." I've been meaning to ask, what do you all think KUBIAK said to the players right before the overtime??? Remember he met with all of them? That looked awesome. It didn't end awesome, it just seemed to me that he believed in the TEAM.
