Need to take my employees out for a Christmas dinner. Last year I took em to PF Changs and they loved it. I thought this year I would take them to Cheesecake Factory, but they dont take reservations (20 of us). Then I thought about Melting Pot, but they are fully booked. Anybody have any recommendations? Along the lines of PF, CF or Melting Pot.
I like Doneraki. Good Mexican food on Westheimer. They have big crowds for Christmas and Thanksgiving.
I'm pretty sure that both El Tiempo (texmex) and Zake (sushi) both take reservations for large parties. And both are fantastic food with a good atmosphere.
The Doneraki by downtown is 10x better. It used to be next to the immigration office. I believe there menu was a bit different. more traditional.
I agree with the Doneraki on Fulton. If you are interested in a "cool, hangout restaurant" like PF Chang's, as in a cool to be seen and to seeing, I'm hearing that Catalan on Washinton/TC Jester is a very hot new restaurant where the beautiful people go, like PF Chang's in Highland Village when it first opened. I haven't been, but my friend owns an Amish furniture store right next door, and she told me ... "the place is too popular for my own good." here's the chron review: http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/dining/cook/4303056.html It is a Spanish/Tapas restaurant. Might be a wee bit on the expensive side of your choices, though. It's owned by the former manager and sommelier of Da Marco's, which it arguably the best Italian restaurant in Houston.
your friend owns that furniture store? haven't been in yet, but the sign makes it look like it could have some cool stuff. We just moved out of that area though...townhouse was doing a number on my knees....nice one story house with a real yard and trees and everything now!
"tree and everything" hehe. congrats yeah, she basically quit her job to open that store. kinda scary for her, since she is the anchor tenant with the rent that goes with that title. They aren't open, yet; although they have sold some stuff already. The "soft opening" is next weekend. The official opening party is scheduled for late January, and two of the Amish craftsmen hope to show up. Apparently they have to get the OK from their "deacon", first. I visited the store for the first time yesterday; the woodwork is pretty amazing. I might have to order a bedframe from them. sigh. that store is dangerous to my pocketbook.
website? I'm in the market for a chest of drawers and bed....and a m struggling with decent looking, below average quality, but very very cheap IKEA, or something nice.
i like: maggiano's little italy ibiza (if you have wine lovers) gravitas (if you're feeling hipster) benjy's (it might be tough to seat a large group... maybe they'll do the lounge?)
Ibiza is a great place, but pricey. If you go there, get the rib eye or the lamb shank. I live like 40 ft, literally, away from there and love to frequent it, although my wallet doesn't!
hp, wanted to follow up on the Amish Craftsman. My wife and I stopped by the other day (then ate dinner at Catalan - pretty good, btw). In either case...wow! we wanted to come home with one of everything. that furniture is awesome. pricey for sure, but it all looks like really high quality stuff. we will probably end up getting a king size version of the bedframe on the front-right of the store. That quarter-sawn oak bed is gorgeous. Hope your friend does well. She does have quite a large space in there, which I imagine can be very difficult with rent when you have such a relatively low volume buy high $ amount business.
