time for bonzi to rise to the occasion, play beyond what his condotion allows, and up his trade value.
when healthy and within a cheeseburger of being in shape, YES. i agree then. but he has not been within a burger king of being in shape since he arrived. if that has changed then by all means he will be a big contributor. he is an extraordinarily talented headcase that has needed to get in shape and abide by the rules. that is all...
I've also had one done and it took all of like an hour. I was fine that day and the medicine didn't even affect me much. The procedure wasn't even particularly painful.
Props to Coach Van Gundy. HE is the coach and runs the team, NOT Bonzi. Once Bonzi called and said, "Okay, Coach, you win....." he can be back on the team. If JVG hadn't handled this properly, Bonzi could have destroyed this team instead of helping us win the Championship! In the absence of all the facts, this seems the most likely to me.... Hey Bonzi....Welcome to Houston! Let's play ball!
first off bonzi doesnt wanna help the rockets. he's only playing so other teams will notice him. he's not gonna play for us next year, so he wants to showcase himself.
bonzi and JVG absolutely NEED eachother. when they realize that (and i think they just did) this team will be a force.
Great news. Bonzi is exactly what are team is missing right now. We finally have someone that can fill the gap between the three point line and Yao. Kudos to Bonzi for finally manning up and working things out, and much respect to JVG for maintaining control, as he should.
I think Bonzi was signed by the Rockets on two counts: 1) T-mac's history of back problems 2) Bonzi's performance against San Antonio in the last playoffs. It is unfortunate that there had to be a personality/attitude clash between Bonzi and JVG. It is like two fighters feeling each other out in the first couple of rounds... or a teenager trying to find his limits with his parents. If both parties survive the jostle then sometimes there is a stronger bond in the end. Let's hope that's how this turns out. JVG may be a little more tolerant since T-mac's back has to be of concern now. JVG is a very principled person to the point of stubbornness, many times. But it is "his" contract year and there is no doubt that a properly handled Bonzi (also properly motivated) can be a very valuable asset in case T-mac should go down for lengthy stretches or even be lost to the playoffs. As has been pointed out here by others, and by Fran Blinebury on Sunday, back problems are usually recurring for athletes once incurred. Also, his "third scoring option" hasn't really surfaced yet from any one else. Although, you could make the argument that the "third man" this season has usually been a couple or more players that stepped up and made the difference in close wins. But that doesn't demand a potential double team like a functioning Bonzi Wells would. On Bonzi's side, he needs to constantly keep in mind that he came here to try to win a championship -- not "run a marathon" or "get on the court and play". If a championship is really important to him then he needs to be a team player. He has lost valuable time interacting with teammates and becoming part of "the team". As trivial as he might think it seems, being with your teammates and cheering for them when your on the sidelines or firing them up when you're on the court is an important ingredient. Maybe just as important as your basketball skills. (See "Bobby Sura" in the Rockets dictionary.) A real bond with his teammates is sorely needed. I hope this works out like we all wanted it to the day he was signed.
now that it is more "official" that he was screwing around this whole time then we have a Bonzi everyone was wary of in the beginning. I don't see how anything has changed, but I guess time will tell. I guess we have now until the All-Star break to figure out if we keep him or move him out for someone who can help in the playoffs. JVG needs to let him play just to see if there is intereest if they don't want him. We would certainly get more for him if he was playing than if he is sitting out the next few weeks.
I'm really curious to see how his conditioning looks compared to what is was in the two games he made appearances in earlier in the season. Surely if the guy has put any work into it he has to have improved, it's been a freakin' month. Secondly, I can't wait to see if he can step up and be a number two attacking option whenever Tmac is out...which is looking like now. The guy needs to bring some energy to the court, because I'm afraid the Rox are gonna be pretty sloppy and laid back without Tmac. If Yao and Bonzi get a good inside/midrange game goin on....Luther's gonna make it rain from outside w000t!
I thought jvg would be the bigger man and deal with the situation, but apparently bonzi who didn't have to, took the first step and called jvg up. Bonzi is a class act. lol. warn us next time you are making jokes. i almost chocked on my M&Ms
Generally, though, the problems that cause the need for a root canal, don't "just happen". For example, my dentist knew (and told me) for a couple of years that I would need a root canal on a particular tooth. If I were an athlete, I would make sure and get the process taken care of during the off season as soon as possible once the problem was diagnosed. I seriously doubt that Bonzi's problem that necessitated a root canal, sprang up over night. Athletes are highly paid and should be expected to take care of all of their health matters in a timely manner. Given Bonzi' history, it is hard to give him the benefit of the doubt.
I am in "I will believe it when I see it" mode. I have said from the beginning, a healthy Bonzi can make this team a serious contender. A healthy TMac would do the same, but TMac is not completely healthy. This situation seems ironic: the Rockets go after this guy, they know his history, his injury, everything, then they appear shocked he is who is. I am not sure I understand this. Some of you are painting JVG as the hero and Bonzi as the bad guy, but without more "facts," I don't know.
Glad to hear something positive come out of this, once he hits the floor and add positives things to this team, then I'll be really happy
I don't want to say I told you so but I reported this almost a month ago and several posters said I was full of it... Well whose your Daddy now JakieSnake! Hey Old Man, it's your birthday!
I would bet, good money, that even though they knew BW had the bad history that when they were talking deals with him he agreed to play by their rules. At least told them what they wanted to hear before signing the deal. I think both of them were partially to blame, but I am just glad to see that Bonzi and JVG are giving a little to make it work.
Yup and your post just confirms the fact that jvg isn't blameless in all this, but some still think jvg has done no wrong and bonzi is 100% at fault.
It won't look good if JVG does that. I don't think that's an option for Jeff either unless it was Jeff's fault. Bonzi needs some spanking to grow up.
