This game has been talked about a little bit in a few threads, but I feel it kind of deserves it own thread, especially since it hasn't been getting much attention. The game simply looks amazing. I thought it looked pretty good the first few times I saw it, but after checking out some more videos and pics from the retail version, I'm really impressed. Some pics: Spoiler Those are all either in-game or real-time AFAIK (hard to tell since the FMV looks really similar). Thanks to BlimBlim, DCharlie, and Bebpo at NeoGAF for providing pics of the game. Xboxyde has the first ~30 minutes or so of the game in HD video to download: http://www.xboxyde.com/news_3873_en.html (additional thanks to BlimBlim...I love his site in case you couldn't tell) It doesn't hurt that, besides impressive visuals, the gameplay itself is really good from what I understand. Major props go out to Mistwalker (their first game) and Artoon. Not sure how many JRPG fans have 360s or are planning on buying a 360, but this is certainly a game to look forward to IMO (assuming you didn't already have it on your list for some reason). BTW, the game sold like 43K in one day in Japan (excluding bundles). That's pretty good considering how poorly the 360 is doing over there (right now anyway...perhaps Blue Dragon and some other 360 JRPGs can change things).
Yes, it looks sweet. My only problem is that I heard it's too easy, and it does look easy from the boss battles I saw from videos.
i believe only 100,000 to 200,000 xbox360 units were sold in japan over the last year, so maybe this game wil be able to win over some japanese gamers.
Yeah, I guess that is one concern. I've read that it does seem to get harder later on in the game though (some people are dying for the first time ~20 hours in). I don't usually care too much about the difficulty in a RPG like this though. I think it was sitting at around 195K as of December 2nd. In addition to the game sales I mentioned earlier for Blue Dragon, it seems like ~30K bundles were sold on day one (so ~70K total for Blue Dragon). I think the most the 360 has sold in a week in Japan was ~55K, which it sold during its launch week. I think it has only sold more than 10K a week 3 times (including the launch week). Needless to say, Blue Dragon is helping out 360 sales quite a bit. Lost Planet and Lost Odyssey should help them out next year too. Things might be getting interesting in Japan.
is this game out yet? Ive been begging for a good rpg game to come out. games like tactics and the old final fantasys...
It just barely came out in Japan, so it might be a little while before it comes to the US (unless they're really quick with the localization). I think "TBA 2007" is the only date they've given for a US release. Of course, I suppose if you're really desperate, you could buy a Japanese 360 and import a copy of the game. Hopefully you know Japanese...
i dont think its gonna be anywhere close to being as good as the old final fantasys, but atleast its a shot at a good rpg. in other news i reserved my assassins creed game few weeks ago.. that looks amazing!!!!!! and im trading in my old xbox for a ps2 so i can play final fantasy for now... until a good rpg comes out
Whether or not you guys like this style of game, hopefully you can admit that the game's visuals (both technically and artistically) look great (like the water for example). Obviously, the quality of the game itself would depend on whether you like this style of game. Some of the impressions I read mentioned that the game isn't FF or DQ, but it is a very good first entry for a new RPG franchise.
I too think it looks amazing. Like watching some anime. I'd definitely buy it if reviews weren't horrible. I was 'definitely' going to buy Red Steel too but then reviews sucked so I didn't.
