The NBA will probably fine Van Gundy for that.

"If he thinks Yao scores when he's guarded legally, that means he thinks that he's guarded illegally when Yao doesn't score ... Which means he thinks the refs aren't doing their job when Yao doesn't score ... which means $50,000 for us."

I smell fines for Van Gundy. Good thing is he has money to pay the fines and he doesn't care. :D

JVG has lost a lot of money trying to protect Yao...I hope Yao gives him some free lunch coupons at his restaurant or something.

I respect a coach that would protect my back, and VanGundy does that.

You remember that big ol brawl in New York?

I still don't know what he was doing on Zo's leg though.

Didn't Camby knock him out as well because he was trying to protect Camby from getting suspended.

I think it'll be ok. Yao did score. JVG didn't say Yao would score A LOT if guarded legally, although we all know that's the truth.

Might as well give JVG an extension Les.

I think he deserves it. I also like that JVG has evolved to be a little bit more positive like Rudy T.

Of course everyone knows I wouldn't give him an extension. But there is no arguing with the way the team is playing as of late. Saturday nights victory was one of the most enjoyable Rocket's wins I have witnessed in a while. And his courtside manner seems to be improving. This is perhaps the best Rockets defensive team ever and they seem to be improving. Plus one of my biggest problems with Van Gundy was the treatment of certain players Yao being the main one. And if Yao is giving his seal of approval to JVG who am I to criticise. Maybe there is more positive coaching going on behind the scenes that I am unaware. I am not ready to become a JVG lover but if the rockets continue there winning ways and they have some reasonable success in the playoffs than he will have earned a right for an extension. Of course I know I will still get flamed by JVG fans for my limited concessions towards JVG but that is about as much as I can stomach in one sitting.

not to be a pessimist but i dont know if he should rush back after last year. mabyee take a couple games off and see if the rockets can hang with out him so he can have a week or so off.

I think so too. even if he feels comfortable enough to play. I'd rather see him miss 1 game or 2 now then later

JVG - "If he's defended within the rules and he doesn't get rerouted, impeded — as long as he's guarded legally — he'll score," Van Gundy said before Saturday's game. "That doesn't mean every game. He can have some bad nights, but if he's guarded legally, he's going to score."

Well, I think JVG is just playing some mind games before the meeting of the master of mind games, Phil Jackson.
