We're playing a game right now, and we're trying to figure out how an ace is played in a straight. I think it's either low or high, but others think it's always high. And can an Ace be flipped during a straight?
It's probably a little late, but an Ace can be played in a straight as follows: AKQJ10 A2345 It doesn't matter when the Ace is produced, it can be played at anytime.
There's nothing that outrages me more (when it comes to cards, at least) than an idiot that tries to argue you cant use the ace in an A2345 straight in hold em. You can do it in any casino in America. It even has a nickname, the 'wheel'. The only way you can't use an ace in a straight is for something like QKA23 (some people might do that in a home game).
If you're in a new group of poker friends, make sure to clarify all rules. It may sound stupid but the good thing here they'll think that you're a beginner. If it's just a 5dollar game, there's no need.
