I agree that he doesnt seem to motivate his players. he doesnt allow his young players to make mistakes, but thats why he has a roster full of disciplined vets and the young players will learn from them. Let him coach, he got us 50 wins two years ago or was it 52?
So you are hoping for a crappy game so you can go off on Van Gundy some more? Good for you. I think it would be much cooler if you stopped posting completely until the last loss of the season (assuming that will be in the playoffs) and then post a big "boo-ya!" thread about JVG sucking because the Rockets lost. You would garner some serious respect for such a move. Chicks would dig you. Men would want to be you. Clutch would call you daddy.
The Rockets will go as far as Mcgrady takes them as long as the old Mcgrady shows up. Yao has yet to prove that he can be effective against a team that gets physical with him. He also continues to struggle with double, triple teams where the ball is stolen from him. Until Yao get very good at this folks, he can't lead the Rockets. That's why it has to be Mcgrady's show and Yao feeds off him.
JVG has gotten the most out of luther head, he's getting something out of Howard. He's survived mcgrady shooting barely 40%. How can you complain, seriously, just because someone you think is going to do well isn't. Vsapn is still a relatively unknown to most fans. JVG gave Novak a chance but he gave up too much on defense and rebounding to justify a lot of playing time, now he's trying to work spanoulis in slowly. Its not like he's not giving these guys a shot. he yells at spanoulis because spanoulis takes too many chances, but at least he's coaching him. He could just stash him on the bench.
Yeah, yeah funny guy. In spite your intent to make it seem otherwise I never root for the Rockets to lose. I am as strong a Rocket fan as most on this board and in spite of what you and others might think I take no pleasure in disliking Van Gundy. I tried to turn a new leaf with this guy. I found some bright spots in his character that made him a bit more likeable and he did say he was going to be more positive. But that was all talk. He is the same negative guy as always. He only hides it better by saying I am trying to be positive. You only have to as far back as Golden State to know that. I have never argued against his basketball knowledge. Hell he has probably forgotten more than I know about the game. But it doesn't stop me from loathing his style. He's a neanderthal man whose style reminds more of General Patton than a coach. Which would be fine if we were in World war III and these guys lives depended on them doing exactly what they were told but that is not the case. This is a game and the players are on the court not the coach. You can't demand the execute your plan to a T without shutting down their creativity and instinct. And in attempting to do so what you are creating is a team of Robots. It will be like Rocky III against the Russian. His coaching continues to offend what I believe is best for the Rockets. Even with all that being said I could live with his style if he would just practice it across the board. Equal screaming for equal mistakes. Don't just scream at Yao Vspan Deke and Snyder. Tracy made some stupid mistakes the other night and he didn't get pulled to the side. JHO has the worst Roland Rating on the team and takes stupid shots and I have never seen him once get pulled to the side to be screamed at. Lucas has even has had some terrible minutes and yet I haven't seen the hate by Van Gundy. If he would just be equal I would have an easier time of accepting his style. Now I will concede that perhaps he is trying to turn over a new leaf and it is just taking time. I will also concede that maybe I am misunderstanding this guy. Maybe he does have a master plan behind what appears to be insanity. Maybe he knows exactly what he is doing and Vspan will be molded into this great player and the Rockets will be molded into this great team. But in the words of my late Father, "Son there's more than one way to skin a cat... and the cat hates them all!"
Correct. If Pat Riley didn't have Mr. Van Gundy in one of his ears, the Rockets might have had a *more* difficult time winning that first championship.
It was Rocky IV not III when he fought the Russian. If you're gonna say anything at least get your stuff together. He fought Mr. T in III.
I wasn't trying to make anything seem any way. I was merely responding to the tone of your post. You made a positive statement about the last game (backhanded as it was) and then ended with "Well tomorrow brings another game." That is a fairly passive (not positive) statement. Used as an interjection, "well" creates an almost "but" effect...as if to say "there were no collapses or poor offense yesterday but tomorrow brings another game (and another chance to flop)." If you were not looking for the negative one might have expected you to say something more positive or hopeful about their ability to continue trends begun last night. Regardless of your intent my interpretation was correct in some ways in that it was contextually logical. If you did not mean that you should be more mindful of your language.
Forgive me for not usng the word "Well" properly as English was my second language. But my intent was to say the team looked good last night but who knows what Crazy Jeff has in store for us tonight. I thought that point and my position would be very clear by now as I have stated my opinion on the subject many times. But enough as it is close to game time and I am rooting for my team while hoping our coach has an awakening tonight.
Actually when I read OMR's comment there I was wondering if he was talking about our coach going off on his players again at a press conference. Hey who needs to be negative about this team when you've got JVG to do it all for you????
Did he really "go off" on anyone? They played sloppy and he said they did. The same players didn't lose their minutes or anything come next game. Doubt anyone on the roster was actually upset about that.
Which was precisely my point after all - you are looking at the Rockets negatively. So you did convey your message well (as I suspected) and you need not worry about your English. I do not understand, then, why you originally said I was trying to make you say something you weren't.
Then you must not be expressing yourself well because you stated, I am hoping for a crappy game so I can go off on Van Gundy some more. Never have I wished for the Rockets to play crappy. I only b**** about Van Gundy cause it's my truth. That being said what a great victory! I have nothing but praise for the team. Kudos to the coaching as well. I thought Van Gundy was communicating well with the team and almost coached a perfect game. I watched listen to Yao during a timeout when Yao was talking to his teammates and directing them. I even so him patting the guys on the back for a game well played. Nothing to complain about tonight. Maybe I have misjudged him or maybe he is having to the awakening I was hoping for?
You think Van Gundy sucks. You think the Rockets will evetually do poorly because he sucks. When that happens you will be first to say, "see - he sucks!" You want to be proven right about Van Gundy. As such, the Rockets losing helps your cause. Anyway, this is pointless.
I tried to cut you some slack cause you've been here for a while. But those are your words not mine. I want the Rockets to win a championship! Any thought about losing helps my cause is your thought. And you are right it is pointless in discussing this further because you believe everything you say is the truth. You may know some things but you are an idiot if you think you know my thoughts.
