Ok, so it's been a good while since I had any regular sleep, I'll be home in about 3 hours, and I need something that'll knock me out right away for about 8+ hours. Tylenol PM? Nyquil? Something else I can pick up at Wal-Mart on the way home? I really need to get some rest cause I feel like I'm going to fall out of my chair here at work

I use melanoma, it's a natural secretion or something and they sell it at GNC, walmart, etc. Take it 30 min. before and knock out!

You can get melatonin over the counter and Walmart should have it. You should take 1-2 pills 30 minutes before going to bed. Preferrably, also try to relax during that time. Then lay down and you should drift off to sleep pretty easily.

5-htp (a form of the amino acid tryptophan, a precursor of the sleep chemical serotonin) on an empty stomach 30 minutes before bed. And whatever you do, do not eat protein or sugar before bed, and stay away from caffeine after noon.

take the melatonin right at bed time (sublingual tablets that dissolve...under the tongue... are prob best). it tells your body that it's time to sleep, then the serotonin should kick in

if you happen to wake up after 4 hours of hard sleeping, you took too much serotonin. even though it doesn't feel like you can, go right back to sleep.

if all of this fails, you can also try adding some GABA in the evening an hour or so before the 5-htp.

these all lead to a natural sleep, you're only making sure that your body has it's natural sleep chemicals available and your circadian rhythm is working for you.

Go in the chat tonight. I'll lull you to sleep with my boringness.

Or, you know, take the skin cancer. You just...don't die. :(

Another vote for melatonin. That stuff is the awesome. I took some last night, actually, because I didn't want to toss and turn before a stressful final. Didn't wake up until the alarm clock went off.

If you don't want to try melatonin, you could take a couple of benadryl --- doctors and pharmacist have recommended that to me many times with my sleeping problems.

I've got some knock off walmart-ish brand benadryl in my car. I think it's non-drowsy though...so that probably won't help.

The generic name for Benadryl is diphenhydramine. It's an antihistamine, so it WILL make you drowsy even if it doesn't say so. This is what I would take if I can't go to sleep since there aren't many or very minimal side effects.

go to wholefoods market ang get a Valerian and Chamomile extract. Put 20 drops of it into your juice and drink it. It has the effect of a valium but the legal kind and natural herb. The only thing is that it smells like toenail. :). I'm serious. I take this everytime I'm on a long flight.

If you're going to use Melatonin, make sure you have nothing to do the next day. The 2 times I tried it, I slept about 12-14 hours and was still tired for the rest of the next day.
