But if JVG bought the tickets with his own money, aren't the Rockets making money on the seats anyway? Why couldn't he buy them for playoff games too?
There are going to be even more rowdies during the playoffs even though the TC won't really need them (see mavs series 05). When Van Gundy bought his 50 tickets he gave away 30 during tryouts. the extra 20 are for friends and family of those 30 rowdies, but for the playoffs those 20 will be given out to new rowdies, not friends and fam (it may b like how they gave away some tix during the playoffs 2 yrs ago an hour before the game). And now there are SEVENTY seats for Rowdies! (thanks to tmac). So no worries. The Red Rowdies were promised the same seats for the playoffs. And to answer Hayesfan's question: these Rowdies only have free tix for this yr. JVG may do it next yr but there'll be tryouts again.
What on earth are you talking about? Virtually nothing you said is true. Do the Rowdies have playoff tickets? Currently, no ..and the Rowdies DEFINATELY WERE NOT PROMISED playoff tickets much less in the same location. Are the extra 20 tickets for Rowdy friends/family. No. The Rockets give those tickets away to fans outside or upgrade 400 level fans. Will the Rockets give the extra 20 tickets away to fans during the playoffs No.
As of right now, we don't have playoff tix. But I'd say that if the organization doesn't spend money on us, then that'd be aweful. We've gained national fame, on Cold Pizza and Sportscenter and all that, and virtually all the fans in Houston know about us. It would be a shame if the players don't contribute to the Rowdies. Remember, there is a reason for our current home record.
You're a Rowdie, right? I asked my source about your reply. He said that he had previously told me the Rowdies have playoff tix, because he believes that they BASICALLY do. He thinks that they'll get it, but actually at this moment they do not have it. He also said that Rowdies can always bring friends to fill some of the 20 extra seats and the rest are filled by fans who are chosen outside. Usually, most of the 20 tix go to these chosen fans, since most Rowdies go by themselves for most games. So, I was wrong to say that the 20 tickets are FOR the Rowdies' friends when really they are for the fans who wait outside. Also the extra 20 tickets during the playoffs will be sold even if Rowdies get their tix, so no Rowdie friends (or guys who wait outside) will be allowed then. My source had said that the Rockets would give all those tickets away, so no Rowdie friends can come. To me that meant that no friends were allowed, but there would still be Rowdies (ones who wait outside) in those seats. Anyway, I'm sorry if I confused anyone. I misunderstood just about everything I had heard.
Right. The Rockets are telling us there is nothing set regarding playoffs. Maybe you know more than me. The guy that is responsible for handing out tickets told us that they want to give other people a chance to join our section. We can bring friends and introduce them but we are not guarenteed to get people in. So to say the extra 20 tix are for friends is highly misleading.
Considering all but 2 teams in the NBA this season have played better at home than on the road, it's not that great of an accomplishment. It's just the way its supposed to be. In the past 5 seasons, every team excluding the Bobcats have more wins at home than away (yes, even us). It's nothing extraordinary. Out of our 9 home games, we have only played 3 worthy opponents and none on a back to back. Let's finish the 41 home games and get into the playoffs first before we get too excited about nothing.
It's all about perspective and context. Compare us to others, not impressive. Compare us to LAST SEASON ...very impressive. Don't forget, the past two seasons is WHY Gundy bought the Rowdy tickets. He didn't buy the tickets because all the other teams play well at home.
Are you sure it's the past 2 seasons and not just last year? 2 years ago we were 26-15 at home. I am aware we only averaged 15600, but thats only 900 less than what we are averaging so far this year! In the 02-03 season we averaged an atrocious 13,875 people at home and still came away with an even better home record of 27-14. Therefore, I see absolutely no correlation between attendance and home court record. I'm not going to discuss last year at all. Did you guys and JVG already forget about all our injuries? No wonder we lost so many at home last year. So I'm going to stick with my theory and say teams are supposed to win at home no matter what team you are (excluding the Bobcats). And the numbers don't lie...
It's not really about home wins ...its about atmosphere. The Toyota Center has been dead for at least 2 years ...that's what I was implying. And that's why JVG bought the tickets. And for what its worth, the atmosphere is MUCH better and it seems to be translating into wins ...for the time being. We only have one loss at home, right? So something is working. I'd like to think it's me.
Yeah 2 years ago, even when we were awesome, the crowd showed up in the 2nd quarter during the playoffs.
