Good shooter on bad shooting nights, do you keep going to him if you were coach?

I think Hayes played less because he was in foul trouble and getting pretty much abused by KG+refs.

I do think that JVG could have used the bench more...but to be honest, without Snyder and Bonzi our bench really isn't very good. Head is nice but he can't do everything.

Depends who that shooter is. Tmac, yes. Head, probably not. Yao, if he is considered a shooter, definitely yes. Alston, hell no. Battier, why not, he doesnt take bad shots anyways.

I think if the player is your no. 1 option... you have to go to him... even if he has stunk it up in the previous 3 quarters...

not because he is the best shooter or most efficient... but because...if he really is a great player... he must be able to take it to the next level...and show you he is a great player.... rather then just be a good player

id say the same thing about the no. 2 option...

however if the guys are shwoing the are not getting it done... then at some point....someone needs to step up and take those shots... and the no. 1 and no. 2 options need to create for that player....

As regular D & D denizen we don't welcome personal insults there either.

    To the original question.
That's a tough one and even though I voted "yes" I think it depends on the coach and how well you know your players. You often hear about shooting yourself out of a slump and a lot of coaches believe that. I really think it depends what you know of the history of the player. Almost all jump shooters have slumps so if you know your player is streaky and the cold streaks are short you stay with him. If its game 7 of Finals you might not have the luxury of waiting.

This is one of the things I've never liked about JVG is that he seems to have some trust issues. Remember when JVG was bringing in players like Mark Jackson, Clarence Witherspoon and even Charles Oakley? Those were all players that he had coached and had success with and it seemed like he felt it more valuable to have players he knew than to try to adapt to players he had. While having trust and loyalty in your players is good there is also developing new talent and adapting to new talent.

To be fair to JVG when pressed he does come to some agreement with players and has shown an ability the past few years to even relax and let his players play to their strength. I think he definately came to an agreement with T-Mac two seasons ago.

Anyone in the team who is not hot shouldn't make too many goal attempts, including Tracy and Yao. Even the role players are not so easy to lower their FG% to 5/21 or 5/19. So no matter how dominant the so called 'superstars' are other nights, so long as they are not in good form, they should stop wasting chances. Rather, to attact defense and pass balls more and let team mates finish.
