Some insider info...I have a friend who is close to a former NBA player who is good friends with Bonzi. Haha...its like 4 degrees of separation from the source, but take it for what it's worth, it made sense to me...

Apparently JVG and Mike Fratello are good friends. Bonzi played with Memphis the year before he played in Sac, before he lost the weight and was a contributor on his team. MF didn't care for Bonzi's weight or attitude, and he relayed this information to JVG. JVG told Bonzi from day one that he would play HIS way or not at all. When Bonzi was nursing his groin injury during the preseason, JVG asked him to accompany the team to Dallas. Bonzi apparently told him he prefer not to (remember club pictures with Bonzi's "sisters"?), to which JVG replied that maybe he should take a few days off and consider if he wanted to take a hiatus from the team PERMANENTLY.

Bonzi went to CD, who basically told him that he should stay cool and deal with it for this season. This is where the story gets a little hairy...apparently CD reassured Bonzi by promising him a new contract after the end of the season, and that JVG will more than likely not have his contract renewed to coach for the Rockets after this season.

So to speculate, I think YES, Bonzi will play this season. As for Bonzi staying in Houston and JVG being the head coach next season, only time will tell...

^^^^

That is bologna. CD is the one leaving. And there is no way that they have made a decision on whether or not to retain JVG. If JVG gets us to the Finals or possibly even the WC Finals, there is absolutely no way that he is gone. If Bonzi did go to CD, then Bonzi or his camp is twisting this one.

Y would u say that? CD has gotten JVG the talent, and 'his' type of players twice .....2 years ago, he got JVG veteran studs like Sura, Wesley, J.Barry, not to mention TMAC and Juwon.......and now that they are gone, he's gotten Battier, Snyder, Wells, VSpan..........i'm not sure what else u can ask from CD. Winning is up to JVG now. He already blew the chance 2 years ago....if he goes 1st round and out again, I would not be surprised at all to see Gundy not resigned.

Because CD is retiring at the end of the year? Firstly whether or not to extend JVG's contract isn't even entirely CD's call to begin with -- between Les and the current VP of basketball operations there's be a lot more influence there. But that is even irrelevant -- CD isn't the one dishing out contracts next year, Morey is. So he can't make promises he won't be there to deliver. I call total BS.

This almost sounds like that stupid story we were led to believe last year
about TMac and his wife. 4 degrees of separation my foot, more like 4 degrees of gossip.

Like I said, take it for what its worth. I personally don't believe the CD story. I was only trying to answer the question of whether Bonzi would play this season. The former NBA player who told my friend the story is somewhat of a nucklehead himself, so he may have been embellishing a bit. But you do have eyes, right? Do you ever see Bonzi sitting on the bench during the games? Did you ever think it was maybe because JVG doesn't want him around? Obviously Bonzi's relationship with JVG is strained, due to his history, his coming into camp 30 lbs. overweight, his never-ending "personal issues", etc. I could totally see Bonzi taking up his gripes with management.

I could see that part of it, and then Bonzi comes out of the meeting with CD and twists up everything that happened to his posse. And then this is the version that hits the streets. CD probably told him to lose the weight and keep his trap shut and JVG would come around and play him or otherwise they would be able to move him to a team that would play him.

Rockets will have trouble signing future free agents with the jvg treats them. THEY went to bonzi. THEY courted him, after he was receiving intrest from other teams. HE chooses them and then JVG turns around and screws him.

Rockets will NEVER have trouble signing future free agents because of Yao (shoe contracts + team success) and Tmac

they will have trouble signing players, why would uw ant to sign here? for yao?

thats not a good enough reason, players arent only looking to wina championship but they are also looking for a home to play. they dont want to sign to just get dealt again. yea sure its the NBA but still if the same situation happens year after year sooner or later no one will want to sign unless your name is vin baker or shawn kemp.

with the assumption that we are signing players who are here to be committed who are here to play ball...then there is no reason why they will sit on the bench

look at battier and chuck

they are here for Yao because he gives them "a possibility" of signing shoe contracts which they would not otherwise attain
