Will FSN ever simulcast the games on their HD channel this season. The FSN HD channel does exist on Time Warner but is off the air most of the week. Why not show some Rockets games? Today they showed 1 college game and then it was off the air the rest of the time again. Hopefully things will change soon according to this... Does anyone have any other info about FSN HD? FSN Plans to Double HD Output Regional Sports Nets Will Shoot 2,500 Hours of HD for 2006-07 Season Fox's regional sports networks are set to announce a major increase in their hi-def programming output. FSN plans to double its HD telecasts for major live events over the next year. That translates to about 1,000 games (or 2,500 hours, about 25 percent of FSN's schedule) for the 2006-07 sports season, showcasing regular-season games from the National Basketball Association, Major League Baseball, National Hockey League and NCAA Football. Fox Sports Net claims it will surpass cable sport titan ESPN this year in terms of its volume of HD event telecasts. ESPN produces about 600 live sporting events, plus the network televises coverage of programs such as "SportsCenter" in the format. Doug Sellars, senior VP of production for FSN, said demand from cable operators continues to drive HD expansion. "The demand is there," he said, "and it's come to a point where it's not as astronomically expensive now that the trucks are all in place." FSN is building a new technical operations center in Houston, expected to open in fall 2007, that will provide FSN with a greater capacity to transmit HD programming. FSN regional networks contributing local HD game production include FSN Arizona, FSN Detroit, FSN Florida, FSN Indiana, FSN Midwest, FSN North, FSN Northwest, FSN Ohio, FSN Pittsburgh, FSN Rocky Mountain, FSN South, FSN Southwest, FSN Houston, FSN Utah, FSN West, Prime Ticket, SportSouth and Sun Sports. http://www.tvweek.com/page.cms?pageId=390
well they're moving to that cuz congress is making a law that all channels will have to be in HD by 2008. They wanna leave all the clear channel stations for emergency purposes only
Australia is such a undeveloped country in terms of providing high tech to consumers...sigh. Even the Chinese are all using DVD players but all I see around here is Tape recorders
FSN HD is horrible. What's the point in having an HD channell that only gets used once a week? I would love to see the Rockets in HD. I just got HD recently some as of right now I'm really looking forward to the 15th. Rockets @ Lakers on ESPN.
They should make them move quicker After getting an HD TV, regular channels are unwatchable. Really though, I heard about the congress proposition but never read any news articles about it - gonna look for it to get more info. Do they want all the channels to be in HD or digital? So whats the minimum HD standard that congress want to set for all the stations...700p? I think FSN shows Mavericks games in HD (San Antonio too I think) ... so why not Houston -- we are the biggest city in TX -- we should be getting all the HD ... I dont know about the technical aspect of it but do they have to buy new equipment or can they just upconvert the current signal and simulcast on their HD station?
Thats exactly my point..whats the point of having FSN HD if its off the air almost all the time. Dallas Mavericks have their games on FSN HD and HDNet ... what makes them so special? Why cant Houston have the same thing....or did Mark Cuban pay off FSN???? Also -- I am looking forward to Time Warner leaving Houston -- all the people that I know who have Comcast say that their HD lineup has more channels and you can tell just by looking online. Comcast has ESPN2 and TW does not and according to them not even considering it ... thats just to name a few...
Actually, I think the official deadline is in 2009 but the mandate is that stations provide digital broadcasts by 2009. The speculation is that many of those broadcasts (especially in primetime) will be HD broadcasts but that's up to the tv stations to decide. But the pace of HDTV purchases and the speed at which tv stations have switched to HD have been much slower than originally anticipated. In fact, the original deadline was January 1, 2006 but got pushed because everything was happening to slowly. I'm still kind of skeptical about the 2009 deadline but we'll see.
This is from wikipedia "Digital Television" some countries have already gotten rid of analog stations.....but i actually heard on CNN that MOST stations will move towards High Def. in 2008 In the United States, the switch-off of all analog terrestrial TV broadcasts has been mandated for no later than February 17, 2009. Legislation setting this date as the hard deadline was passed by Congress and signed into law by President George W. Bush in early 2006. Currently, most U.S. broadcasters are beaming their signals in both analog and digital formats; a few are digital-only.
i saw something on a CNN tech segment that most channels will probably go HD because to prices of tv's are going down. they gave a percentage that by 2009 that more households will have a high defintion televsion
The FCC is requiring DTV (Digital Television) not HD (High Definition). They're two different things. to quote howstuffworks.com "Even though a digital signal is better quality than an analog signal, it isn't necessarily high definition. HDTV is simply the highest of all the DTV standards." http://www.howstuffworks.com/hdtv.htm
Parlett316 is right, its a switch to digital not HD, there's a huge difference. FSN is probably sending their signal in digital right now anyway.... also, if i remember right, the law only affects the terrestrial broadcasters and not the cable/satellite providers.
FSN won't support every game in HD for a while. I heard earlier this year that the Rockets expect to put 10-12 games next season on an HD channel, but it will be slow because many of the networks still don't have the equipment in place to do true HD yet. Keep in mind tht it's really expensive to do and is still only being requested by a small minority of viewers. I'm sure some of you guys LOVE HD, but the reality is you won't stop watching because it isn't in HD and the vast majority of people don't have HD. Like most networks, it is going to be slow to develop. As the cost comes down (like all technology) and the demand increases, more small networks will come online with the equipment including FSN.
They still have tons of games on FSN HD so even if he owned HDNet that still does explain why FSN broadcasts HD games in Dallas but not in Houston unless teams have to pay for it... You are correct about HD being more expensive but what I want to know is why FSN can afford to broadcast Mavericks HD games in Dallas but not in Houston? Is Mark Cuban covering the cost? Do more people have HD TV's in Dallas? Also, its not only Dallas, I think about 4-6 other NBA teams have their games broadcast on FSN HD ... I clearly remember the Celtics being one of them. On Time Warner the standard FSN channel is 37 - would that make it analog? I thought that 2-99 was analog and 100+ digital? Does anyone notice that the quality of the FSN main camera during the game is not that great. The main game action camera seems to put out dark picture and looks out of focus. I have noticed that when they change to alternate cameras there is more focus and more color. Also, when they go to commercials, the commercials have better picture quality than the game itself. Oh well...
I just don't want anymore games on Channel 51. It's like watching it on an old TV with a rabbit ears antenna.
