Well Yao Ming was amongst the 13 selected Asian American All Stars by the Chinese Community Centre at Houston.....

Yao Ming could not attend the award ceremony on November 30th at Hotel Intercontinental Houston as he was on his way back after the game with Phoenix Suns.

So his dad represented him there.

He was the youngest amongst the 13 awardees, which include some local Chinese enterpreneurs, celebrities and athletes, as well as Brian Ching of Houston Dynamo, and Kailee Wong of Houston Texans.

Yao Ming in a pretaped video thanked the Chinese Community Centre for their past efforts and contribution on the Chinese community in Houston, and honoring him with the award, and to support the new basketball stadium and gymnasium they are building for the youngsters of Houston, he donated US$ 10K, and 1 pair of autographed sports shoes for auction to raise proceeds for the the gymnasium.

His pair of shoes was hotly contested by 3 people, raising from a bottom bid of US$ 1,000, all the way to US$ 17,500.......

Finally, a representative from Houston Rockets agreed to give out 2 similar pairs and that the 3 of them will get a pair each at US$ 15,000, thus raising US$ 45K for the gymnasium.

Yao isn't exactly an Asian American. He is just an Asian who works in the states. He is not even a PR of this country.

So does this take away the fact that he is becoming the favorite son of the Chinese community over there in Houston and USA? He is making every Chinese or Asian there in USA and globally proud, as he is slowly but surely transforming into a NBA superstar.

I know. If he is, then he sure will fight for his right on the court more! So typical...
