Once again, Mike Jackson has given up a game winning HR. Why do we keep pitching this guy?

He can't be worse than Boston's Derek Lowe. All that guy has done this year is lead the majors in most losses in relief with 10. This after having a 42 save season the year before.

Come on!! Mike went through a long period there where he didn't give up a run after he gave up all those runs in Pittsburgh. He gave up one run in roughly his last 5 outings. Give him a break. If the offense could muster more than 2 runs and 3 runs against the freaking Brew Crew, it wouldn't be an issue.

Prior to this game Jackson had pitched 13 innings in 10 appearances without allowing a run.

    This was a team loss:

    1. Barker (AGAIN) getting thrown out trying to steal in the 9th.

    2. Lugo (AGAIN) getting thrown out trying to steal 3rd on a pitch where Bagwell walked.

    3. Alou hitting into a double play with runners on 1st and 3rd and one out.

    Lack of overall hitting.

I feel sorry for Mike Jackson. He seems to have a bit of Derek Loweism in him - the ability to actually pitch quite decently, but screw up in situations where he'll get blamed.

Not a bad pitcher, but a lot of bad luck.

He also pretty much only pitches in close games now, so he's always in that no-win situation. With Dotel & Wagner, we have been spoiled to basically expect a 0.00 ERA all the time in the late innings. Jackson will do that most of the time, but isn't a Dotel, so he looks like he sucks.

One monstrous blowup in Pittsburgh didn't help either. :(

    Shanna:

He has 4 blown saves and 4 saves with a 4.32 ERA.

That's what I call bad luck, aka Derek Loweism ;). Usually that sort of ERA will net a much better ratio.

Oh well, no hard feelings for Jackson. Cubs lose today and the astros win. So Jackson got lucky. :)

Wade Miller pitched one hell of a game. He is the best pitcher on this team imo.

The Blown Save and the Hold are 2 relatively bad stats. Look at today's Twins game. They were winning 4-0 in the 9th. With 2 on and 0 out, Todd Jones relieved and gave up a HR, single and double and was then relieved. Since it was still 4-3 when he left (he did get 1 out), he was credited with a hold. With runners on 2nd and 3rd, Guardado gave up a SF and then got the last out. Since the tying run scored while Guardado was pitching, he gets a blown save, even thought the run was charged to Jones. Jones DOESN'T get a blown save, because the Twins were still ahead when he left the game.

It is obvious which pitcher had the better outing, but Jones gets a positive stat (hold) and Guardado gets a negative stat (blown save). Guardado did end up with the win after the Twins won in the bottom of the 9th, but to get a blown save it that situation is a bit ridiculous.

Wade Miller is an excellent young pitcher, but Oswalt is better.

Actually, I belive that the 4 some of Miller, Redding, Hernandez, and Oswalt will go off next year.

You're right. Redding had a high era. But, someone wrote that he was a Kevin Brown starter kit, and I agree. He has a very serious demeanor and EXCELLENT stuff. This guy will be good. All he needs to do is get ahead of the hitters.
