For the love of Hakeem Olajuwon don't ever pass the ball to Juwan. EVER. He will shoot (or drive) it. He will miss. The other team will get the ball. You can fake a pass to him if you really think the defense will be fooled but don't let the ball leave your fingers in his direction. Ever. Please. To Juwan - Don't shoot the ball. EVER. Putbacks might be alright on a case by case basis but even that is doubtful. Shooting wastes your energy and you are old. Older than your age, actually, and that is not your fault. You are a good person. People like you. Basketballs do not like you to shoot them. I would, however, like to commend you on your recent discovery of rebounding. Have you noticed that you have been pulling down some really difficult boards in the last few games? Have you also noticed that you are pulling down more now in fewer minutes than previous years? I bet you would get even more if you stopped shooting. We could use more. Rebounds, that is.
good post.. I really think Howard should consider taking less shots, or actually, taking none... I am alright with him taking the open Jumper from 15, but if he misses the first couple of times, this means that he is not on the mark this game, he should STOP shooting... I am really disturbed with the fact that in the last couple of games, he has been taking some under-pressure shots and shots way out of his range.
That's ridiculous. If players knew if the next shot would go in or not, they would only shoot if they knew it would go in. Juwan would not shoot it, if he thought he would have missed the shots. Juwan is a decent midrange shooter. I am sure he cans them in practice. He is just having a bad stretch shooting. It's just that we live in short-term memory society with long term goals. When Juwan makes 10 shots in a row and Chucky misses his layups, there will be threads to start Juwan.
And for the love of Hakeem Olajuwon, please people...don't use Hakeem's last 5 letters in his last name to spell Juwon. It's a sacriligeous misspelling. And most definitely, don't use the phrase "... ala Juwon" do describe something Juwan would do.
I would not be surprised if Juwon applies for the waterboy position next year....he loves this team too much, and beeing so close to a ring, he will not retire soon
A++++ Post. I hate Juwan Howard with a passion, that man is a walking blackhole! Draining all the rocket's hard worked defense and supplying the opposing team with offense!
No, no, no. We cannot give him any excuse to shoot ever. If you start talking about taking open shots to see if he is "on" then he will get confused and start shooting near-three pointers as he did last night. We don't want that. We need tough love. And remember - shooting makes him tired. We need him to rebound. I have broken down the last 3 years of his games and have come to a conclusive formula that proves this. Juwan's rebounds = minutes + altitude - 15 - (FGA x 2). As you can see, for every shot that he takes he loses two rebounds.
Why the hate for Juwan? His shooting this year? He's only averaging about 3.5 shots per game this year anyway. He shot about 46% last year which isn't unbearable, and a far sight better than TMac's 40%. Obviously Juwan is no TMac, but I don't understand why this is such a big issue.
Don't know if you noticed but we won the game. We know Juwan is capable of hitting those shots so obviously he's in a shooting slump. He's not a great player but he's always been able to hit those shots he's currently missing. The healthier approach is: Just wait how good the Rockets get when the team, including Juwan, actually start playing good. Up to this point, the entire team has been playing pretty crappy yet we are still winning.
I like Juwan. I am trying to help him. If he is to make it to the end of his contract without having to retire he needs to stop shooting, beginning tonight.
And he has always filled a spot on the floor that no one else on the team is consistently hits from. He's made many teams pay for cheating off him, sometimes several consecutive trips down court.
Forget Juwan. Why do we keep passing the ball to Dikembe? There's a reason why he's open under the basket : it's part of the defense. The best way to stop the Rockets is leave Deke open and let him get the ball under the basket - it's out of his range and he'll take the shot (assuming he can bring the ball up to shoot without fumbling it - which, now that I think about it, is highly unlikely).
Fans always have to have that one guy to hate. Problem is, it seems like this team has more than that. I don't understand it.
Pdeer Amel: "I would not be surprised if Juwon applies for the waterboy position next year....he loves this team too much, and beeing so close to a ring, he will not retire soon " Isn't Juwan contract thru the next 3 years??
