From the standing of nba.com,we rank 4th: http://www.nba.com/standings/team_record_comparison/conferenceNew_Std_Cnf.html But according to the new rules,it seems that we rank 3rd,not 4th.Right?
Even though we have a better record, the lakers are leading their division so they'd be a higher seed than us if the playoffs started tomorrow.
No that is incorrect. New Rules: If a team leading a division is worse than a team in 2nd place in their division. That 2nd place team takes their spot. For Example: Spurs - 65-17 Lakers - 50-32 Jazz - 62-20 Rockets - 56-26 The seeds would be: Spurs Jazz Rockets Lakers For Example: Spurs - 65-17 Lakers - 50-32 Jazz - 55-27 Rockets - 56-26 The seeds would STILL be: Spurs Jazz Rockets Lakers I think 2nd place in division highest they can finish in conference is 3rd.
I think the new rules is that three division leaders and the best 2nd will be the top 4.And the ranking will be determined by their records. That's to say, being a division leaders won't guarantee top 3.
the way seeding works now is that the 3 division winners plus the 2nd place team with the best record are the top 4 seeds and they are seeded according to their record. so right now it should be 1. jazz, 2. spurs, 3. rockets, 4. lakers. Playoff Seeding: # The first four seeds in each conference will continue to be given to the three division winners and the team with the next best regular season record, but these four teams will now be seeded in order of their regular season records. Among other things, this change will ensure that the two teams with the best records in the conference will not meet earlier than the Conference Finals. http://www.nba.com/news/rulechanges_060802.html
so this rule is basicly fair unless the 5th and 6th seed have a better record than the 4th seed by being in a different division. I still don't like it. I don't see why people should be rewarded for winning their division. We play most of the teams in our conference the same amount of times and if the 5th and 6th seed has a better record than the 4th seed then that just means the division that the 4th seed won is absolute ****.
We're 3rd right now, as mentioned. The way I see it, we are either 3rd or 5th at the end of the season. So, if we are 3rd, we play 6th place. Right now, I believe that's Denver. Either way, we have homecourt here, and if we played good enough to get 3rd, then we should win this easy. If we're 5th, then we face the 4th placed team, which will be the worst division winner. We won't have homecourt advantage. But the worst division winner could be Utah, Denver, Lakers, Clippers or Suns. 2nd place in SouthWest seems like they will definitely get that 3rd seed over a division winner. We're in a good place. We need to fight for topping our division. What can't happen is we get 6th and Dallas or San Antonio get 3rd. We don't have homecourt advatage. This would be really messed up. I don't mind playing Dallas, we can whoop them easily since they can't contain Yao or T-Mac, and now we have some excellent role players. But San Antonio would be a problem. A big one.
We will if we have the better record. Ultimately, coming in 4th vs 5th really doesn't matter anymore.
Yeah, but I'm assuming that if we are 3rd in our division, then at least one of these teams will have a better record than we do: Phoenix Clippers Denver Utah Even though all but Utah started off slow, those guys will be able to notch 55-60 wins at season's end. I estimate that we'll need 56-59 wins to get second in our division. So if we get 3rd, then most likely, one of those 4 will be above us as well. These are all my projections though, anything can happen. The way the Pacific is looking right now, our division could very well have the top 3 OR 3 of the top 4 records in the West, if not the league.
Eh. Denver is NOT notching 55 wins this season. Even 50 is a question mark. Not with the way they give up layups like candy. ATROCIOUS defense.
3 division winners and plus the best second place team will get the frist 4 seeds. those seeds are determined by record. we should be in 3rd place right now.
I think Denver will not make the playoffs. If they do, they will sneak in as an 8 seed like they did last year, but last year they had Kenyon Martin. Once teams start adjusting, they will slow down JR smith and Carmelo. They play no defense. Their luster will disappear. Clippers are a top 3 team in terms of talent and they have a good coach. They will figure things out and play strong in the second half of the season. San Antonio Dallas Utah Houston Phoenix Clippers Lakers Warriors
Personally, I don't care how they rank us. All I care about are the Wins and the quality of the Wins & Losses.
