This actually is based on the concept of the hanging tree that has been used in shopping centers and other places. The practice dates back to the middle ages when trees were hung from ceilings rather than placed on the ground. Someone got the idea that some may not have enough height in their room to hang a tree, so they built them upside down. Just a dumb fad.
